No snow, but ice and mud. Been a while since I rode too and will probably be a month or so before I can ride again, IF the rain lets up.
Hell, I am stuck at work right now since most of the roads home are closed due to mud slides and fallen trees. The only way home is about 60 miles out of the way.
On our ride in this morning, we had a RoadGlide sized boulder crash down 10' in front of my car and roll across the road. Half a second faster and it would have destroyed my car and put us in the hospital (at least). 3" of rain yesterday and 6 so far since last night. Had to check my short when I got to work this morning...
The hard core will mock me for this, but after riding year round and rusting out a Suzuki 380, I don't ride until "2 hard rains" after the end of salting.
Which basically means a few weeks after the last snow/ice fall, since the county sure isn't going to keep salting if they don't have to. And in this gloomy place, it pretty much rains all spring, in a gray, endless drizzle kind of way. Same thing in fall.
The real reason for my patience/cowardice, is salt drifts. Accumulated for 5 months. Bone dry, cubical ball bearings under Dunlops. You need some gully washers, hard, driving rain, to wash them off the road.
Luckily we get those too. So probably March before I ride again. Or April. ( and freaking happy to be doing so , Reminds me, I need new riding pants... with pucks. )
Not safe to ride up by you Ae in the winter, like you said too much salt, same here. I'm sure like here they spray that salt solution over the roads to start the snow melting right away, only problem is if it don't snow or rain it starts to get raised up and becomes fine powder which finds every nook and cranny on a vehicle, really sucks. That's leaving out the heavy granual salt making roads slippery, just as bad driving over sand.
They're calling for 10" of snow here on Thursday, if it happens things are going to get interesting.

When this thread started I was in Springfield, Ohio. It was mild the day we got there then it turned horrible cold. Had one night at the dog park where it was -11 degrees and about 2 inches of snow on the grown. For a guy that grew up in South Florida, it was unbearable to say the least.
The move is complete and now we're back in Phoenix, AZ and it going up to 75 today. As soon as I get the XT out of the moving truck, I'm going for a freaking ride!

Well, it could be worse, today is 63 degrees outside, and I can't ride because my broken right wrist is taking its time recovering, and I have a new to me buell xb12ss on it's way and I won't be able to ride it, even after the snow storm passes. Hopefully by spring.

Today in Maryland, my driveway (at 1500' elevation facing northwest) was 66 degrees.
I wore shorts and a tee shirt when I went to the bank and to wal-mart, and I was doing paint touch-up work on my front porch after I sat on the porch with my morning coffee. It was THAT mild.
Currently it is 44 - nearly 10pm.
They're calling for 5-8" of snow tonight/tomorrow morning and highs tomorrow won't even hit the freezing mark.
Currently, it's 16º F here. Yesterday, we got a foot of snow. I'm feeling like sh*t 'cause I've got influenza and Sunday, we have a 24 hour snow event rolling in.
Hehe, it happens every 10 years or so in my area. Right now all the roads out of my town are closed from mudslides or trees falling down. Been like that since the first of the year. Never know when I wake up if I am able to get to work or not.
That last picture I posted is from HWY 17 which is the only main artery from Santa Cruz to San Jose. Yesterday while cleaning it up, some poor guy was crushed by a dump truck. It's still moving today and now the road is completely closed again. More rain tonight and then clear until Thursday when we are expecting anther UGE! storm...
So far this year we have been trapped at home for over 7 days (not all at once).
This is the worst I have seen it since we moved into this house 20+ years ago.
My faith in humanity is restored when the community comes out to help those in trouble. Less than 1/4 mile from me, a family had 3 houses wiped out by a mudslide in the middle of the night. The father, and 2 daughters and their kids narrowly escaped with their lives. They got out wearing t-shirts and pajamas. The entire community has been donating clothes, supplies and toys. Heartwarming.

Very similar story close to me in Gatlinburg. Lots of good folks doing what Jesus would do. Certainly "what makes the world go around"...
Airbozo, I moved out to CA back in 77, that's right, 1977. It was the end of the 20 year drougt. I never saw so much rain in my life ! There were mud slides all over the place. It was pretty amazing to see first hand, houses sliding off mountainsides and all, but everything turned green for about three months, then the Sun came out and stayed out for like six months. Didn't take long for everything to turn brown ! I feel for you guys because you never know where it's going to happen.
8629, I hate to break it to you but, there are many, many none Christian's that go out of their way to help others, especially during times of crisis! So it's good to know that there are good people of all kinds out there.
One thing I dislike about a warm February is that all of the trees will bud early then a one night freeze in early March will kill them off and it leaves the trees sparse and bare all summer. Damn Kudzu doesn't need any help killing trees in East Tennessee!!
I am glad it has been warm though. I have been doing a lot of hydro-sand-blasting. Be a frozen sonny beach otherwise.
I went for a 300 mile ride around 4 counties today. Rode the "hill country" of central Florida in a big loop. I took off at 9 am. It was 74 degrees, sunny, and almost no wind.
The smell of orange blossoms was at times overpowering. Had 4 bee strikes, but none hit flesh. You learn to armor up here in orange blossom season. It hasn't yet got cold enough for frost. Everything is in bloom several weeks early.
At the shop, we have never had this much work this time of year.
Sure. Got work in place. Weather good enough to ride the Uly to get some bolts needed for a job. I get the flu bug! You know, fever head and body junk , cold sweats, dizzy. Perfect riding conditions! Not to mention I broke a molar the other day. I am so well suited to pain and suffering! Motherf uk in sombish!!!!!
Dentist won't see me until illness is gone. Dr says got to sweat it out. "Do Not come into office we don't want our sick patients getting it! "

Got to get better to be able to go get whiskey. Feeling a little better. Last time I ate anything was Sunday. No idea what day it is now. Oh I see it now. Wednesday.

Last week, once I was able to eat, I had a hamburger roll. Nothing else; just the roll. I managed to keep it down. I didn't try anything else until the next day, when I had a few ounces of roasted chicken. After the chicken stayed down, I figured I was getting over it. Still, I remained cautious for a few days more.
