Yep! I said it! Just my opinion. 1. can't ride my bike(well.....comfortably) 2. can't drive my hotrods(not with salt on the roads)I HATE rusty cars! 3. can't take my boat out fishing(got it winterized) 4. work is slower than usual(if that is possible) 5. work takes longer(paint products like dry 70F+) 6. got to deal with cold weather attitudes(seems to affect everyone) 7. cost extra $ to heat(get paid the same as summer) 8. time and hassle dealing with fire wood for other than bonfires. 9. F#$^**@% tax time preparation 10. days are too short 11. I hate being cold!!!!(ageing is not easy, but easier in warmer dryer weather) I used to like winter years back. Before my body knew what it was. I rode snowmobiles, three wheelers, and worked as a snow maker and lift operator at a ski lodge, skied a lot(chasing girls around the slopes), was on a bowling team winter league, and drank a fair quantity of warming juices to keep me going. Do any of you old farts still like winter?? Can there be any reason to?

For the last month I've been in Springfield Ohio (South Western part of the state). The people are great, the land is pretty and the weather sucks beyond words. I's spent most my life in warm weather areas: Florida, SE Texas and Phoenix. We've had a lot of temps in the low 20's and upper teens. I FREAKIN' HATE THE COLD.... Winter sucks huge hairy donkey gonads. |

The only place I ever loved winter was in the dessert. Just keep on rubbin' it in Don & Harry. Joe just doesn't know any better. I always figured if I locked him in the trunk and let him out 2 hours later he would just be happy to see me. Gotta love him. Vern, Zane, and John, them is smart fellers. I went to the auto parts store an hour ago and my fingers are still cold. When I move, I'm putting a wood burner in a shed, getting oxygen and acetylene for my welder and I'll have a happy spot for winter. |

Here at my house the dogs are depressed (one likes to crawl in my lap to feel better), my honey is mopey, and I'm OK- I tend to appreciate the gray days, as they make me appreciate the sunny ones more when they reappear. It has started sleeting- gonna be grilling gorgonzola blue cheese burgers outside soon... I DID start up the BMW yesterday, put it through a full heat cycle, then cut the petcocks to off, waiting for the bike sputter dead... my $20 Battery Tender plugged back in. DANG I wanted to ride yesterday... oh well. |

BRING IT !!!! At the front door this morning!
Where I'll be tomorrow!
Our neighbor's little guy, who really hates Arizona in the winter. He goes nuts in the snow when he gets here for the holidays!
I do have to say that I really dread the thought of going back to the midwest in winter, it is the main reason we came to the mountains, to have real snow and sun! Also, would much rather live in a heated house in the winter than an air conditioned house in a hot humid summer. |

Here in the U.P. on the shores of Lake Huron, half the folks leave in Sept because winter's coming. The other half stay because winter's coming. After deer season, a rabid pastime, the crazies are looking forward to the thousand miles or so of snowmobile trails, ice fishing, snowshoeing and pond hockey tournaments. I spent way too many years in California's Central Valley with their 110° summer days where I felt like a prisoner in my home waiting for sunset each day so I could take the dogs for a walk. Last year up here we were out in -20° weather enjoying the winter carnival. If it's not windy, we're outside doing something. Get back to house and throw another log on the fire. The dogs feel the same about the move. Full disclosure, I'm not home right now as we're on the road heading west again so my wife can see the new grandbaby. |

That looks like an Akita...? My Basenji is definitely a sun-dog... our Jack-HaHa still needs a sweater nowadays. I'd love to try a snowmobile! |

Nah. Because Florida. I used to ride a mountain bike through the winter up north. That is the suck...as was working outside for most of the winter season. I'd come home and cocoon myself in a blanket for the rest of the day. |

It is an Akita, "Bozy". Our friends got him from a rescue in the Denver area. He is huge and intimidating, but the heart and soul of giant puppy. I have worked on the mountain for a couple of years, and the biggest thing is atgatt (that is cold weather gear). Just like riding gear, you get what you pay for. Rick, how do you deal with the summers in Florida, I hear from those that have lived there that they can be pretty brutal, and you can only take off so much clothing before you get hauled off! I also know that personally, I could never live without the change of seasons! I even get to enjoy them from inside while working at my desk!

All sucking aside. Those are great pictures that don't do being there justice. Now back to sucking. Rockford, Illinois has no snow on the ground. Is -17 wind chill with a non windy of 0. My apartment has a third story view of ....uh...Rockford. |

I'm curious, 02- does "Bozy" bark much? Or, vocalize in other ways? I've a theory that the rarer, ancient breeds might have much less propensity to bark than most dogs... got a Cairn terrier and an old hound behind my house, they only bark at 2 things. Everything, and nothing. I hate Cairn terriers. I'm currently with my 2nd Basenji. My first one never barked at all, had a weird, falsetto-like growl. My guy now, D'ogee, will alert once, and that's it- just stares with big hair (back up) after that. Back to OT- our forecast (snow coming) basically means I'll be making very little $$$ this weekend. Yes, folks around here freak out with even a dusting... they aint gonna be going out for a fancy dinner! Craptastic. Good news though- I made sure I could get to my old snowsled real easy, if need be... |

Squids, He does bark, mostly alert type barks but not much, similar to huskies. I know someone who has a few Basenji, and they are amazing fast little dogs and quiet. They'll do laps in their living room and run on the front of the couch, banked, parallel to the floor. |

Jeff - oh yeah, we're still locked at the hip. In fact, he was at my front door this morning at 9 am... his diesel jelled so I ran him to Walmart for some fuel treatment. We decided it was too cold to go in today. Tomorrow we'll be at the shop tho. Z |

I took advantage of a 53 degree day Friday and put 15 or 20 miles on the 1190RS. It had been a couple of weeks of crap weather and no riding so I feel a bit recharged now. Today I am Owner/Operator of Tad's Hindsight Engineering, dba Headstrong Machining. It's a small machine shop specializing in H-D/Buell headwork. Moving the 2 mills to Longmont this week. Starting a big new phase at 62... I'm a Small-business man. Z

Not sure how much Dan is saying right now. He and Cil are moving to Missouri, keeping NRHS but scaling down a bit. I have no desire to go to MO so I bought the mills from Dan and I will continue carving heads here in CO. For the time being, we are continuing the arrangement we have had for the last 5 years. Dan will send me heads and I will send them back to him when finished. Hopefully Dan sends me enough heads to be worth the trouble until I can drum up some work on my own. I really enjoy carving the slow out of Harley heads... not ready to put my Foredom down just yet. I also expect to pimp out my CNC as there are several machine shops in the area.

Zac, nice work! Congrats on the new adventure. Winter does suck if you're not into winter sports. I'm still riding, even at -4F. Just rain and warm liners in the gear, inserts in the gloves for ski-type reflective heat. Works pretty good. Was -7F this morning... just can't go too far |

I helped out a Jesus-biker on a Triumph 2300cc trike yesterday. It was 6 dF and his battery was dead. He was built like a walrus and wore several layers of down and leather so I think he was warm enough to survive. We went to Napa and he got a cheap, light set of jumper cables that will live in the trunk. Really nice guy, a bit daft but I ain't throwing any stones..... I shook my head as I watched him pull away tho. What ties all this in is - Pretty sure my coldest was a 20 mile ride in 17 dF. The Buell P&A heated grips are worth every penny... Z |
