The city of Houston plans to release the police body cam video. They claim it will exonerate the police. If such a thing is possible in today's environment.
One problem with most of the videos you see is that they dont start untill well into the incident. Dash cam and body cam video should show the entire event. Most importantly it should show the actions leading up to the event. I personally think that dash and body cams are a good idea as they tend to protect everyone involved. Of course the protestors may not be so happy seeing that the police had reason to react the way they did more often than not, but a dose of reality might be good for them.
Conservatives, of all people, should understand that misdeeds committed by agents of the state are categorically different from the same acts committed by normal citizens. A father who slaps his son for no good reason, however wrong that may be, is very different from a cop who slaps a citizen for no good reason.
This country was created, in part, because the founders were outraged by arguably slight infractions taxes on tea! against their liberties and dignity. Is it really so unfathomable that African-American citizens should be outraged or distrustful of government when they have good reason to believe the state is murdering young black men?
It should be said that the data do not actually corroborate this belief at least not as clearly as one might think. Harvard economist Roland Fryer found that when black suspects encounter the police, they are slightly less likely to get shot than white suspects. He called it the most surprising result I have found in my entire career. Fryer, by the way, is African American.
But Fryer also found that blacks are disproportionately victims of bias when it comes to non-lethal use of force by police, such as use of pepper spray, manhandling, and the like. Is it so unreasonable to assume that citizens who experience such bias would also believe that it extends into police shootings? Particularly when such tragedies receive so much attention in social media and the press?
In other words, if blacks experience being unfairly stopped, frisked, and manhandled, is it really nuts for them to think the unfairness extends to shootings as well?
Nearly a century ago the biggest cause of lack of respect for cops was Prohibition. Not everyone drank illegal booze but many did and it made the police an irritant to be feared and disrespected.
This century the 3 main causes for lack of respect for police are....
Drug Prohibition, ( where a guestimated %70 of all citizens have been criminals, at least once. )
Speed Limits. When safety takes a distant back seat to revenue generation, and a near majority break the law daily... you get disrespect.
Gun laws. No Child likes "It's ok for me, but not for you. You're not X enough." When you are an adult, it goes down even worse. Plus the racist and political nature of the subject.
Hillary can do felonies, endanger the nation, get people killed, and get away with it, because she has power.
You will go to prison for a box with a spring in it.
Facial recognition is in more places than you think.
If you even drive past an airport your plates and face have been captured and categorized. If you step foot anywhere on airport property your face will be scanned, logged, compared to wanted lists, no fly lists and then analyzed for stress or nervousness. Remember this next time you admire a particular piece of art or advertisement when walking through any airport.
If you walk on any busy street in any major city, your face is captured, logged and then most likely stored for further evaluation. This is not even done by the government, rather cameras setup and operated by private companies. This information is available for sale to anyone, even the government.
Sites like Facebook also collect any and all information you post or even someone else posts on their page including images. Those images are analyzed and faces are tagged and categorized for names, locations and dates. This information is available for sale to anyone including the government. It is also perfectly legal for the police, or other government agencies to purchase this information and use it to track you and build a case against you and is even admissible in a court of law.
Several years ago I worked on a project to supply the hardware and software to analyze the captured images of peoples faces from all over the country (and possibly world). At the time there were several dozen rail cars full of data (mostly hard drives and DVD's) waiting to be analyzed.
Another scary bit of info; There is a dedicated satellite pointed directly at Washington DC (and possibly other cities) that captures and records anyone and everyone on the streets. They can track you just by the way you walk or the clothes you wear.
Also note that any time you see the facebook, twitter or google logos on a web page, your activity is being recorded and sent back to that particular company and can be associated with your accounts even if you are not logged into those accounts and can also be correlated back to you if you don't even have an account.
These companies make a lot of money selling your personal habits and information to others, including our government.
There's also a company that "saves" Facebook daily. That video of you riding a stolen shopping cart into a pool screaming obscenities about your boss, or job? You deleted that years ago. Many companies pay big money to send the names of their job applicants to this company and they scan your saved pages for deletions and keywords.
So if you didn't get that job at Yoyodyne, it might be that time you cursed their product.
Tomorrow, you might get pulled over for a broken tail light. It could go badly depending on what the Police officer's computer is programmed to tell him about you.
Next year I could have have a drone strike my car on a back road because I called Hillary a Monster today.
Walmart has been using facial recognition software for loss control for a couple of years now. My daughter was talked into shoplifting something a couple of years ago. Of course she did it. They banned her from Walmart. Her mom took her to court and hid the thing from me. I needed to stop once with her with me and made her go in with me. We didn't make it halfway down the aisle from the door when security showed up and told her to leave. I asked what was going on and the security guy told me about her being banned and that the stores camera system is computer monitored for facial recognition for this reason.
And ..... If you have ever posted a photo of a weapon on the internet.
They how cool it would if you'd been smart enough ... As a college kid .... To retain the IP rights to something called "tagging" and got a "portion of a penny" every time someone "tagged" a photo on FB. Why ..... You could send your daughters to college on the royalties.
:-)
Information.... All of it .... Is like the tributaries running to the Mississippi ..... Eventually ... It all winds up I one place.
I'd post this on the Obama thread, but I'm already on The List. The only reason I don't expect a Predator overhead is the List is very long.
Hoot... Dang. Suicide by cop without shooting people first. Judging only by the video, ( a stupid thing to do ) looks like a legit shoot.
Seriously, if confronted by freaked out yelling men pointing guns at you, your choices are, Obey, be stupid, or, in a very limited set of circumstances, attack. Very freaking limited. 99+ out of a 100 times, Obey is the right answer.
I'm not going to discuss the rare cases where that's the wrong move. If you haven't thought about it for a long time, and have never been in a life threatening situation, then you'd probably dismiss them out of hand.
But the subject will come back up someday when someone responds to threats of death quickly and effectively. Otherwise it will look like the guy in the video above who no longer hates his life.
Interesting read. A little long and some dry spots, but worth it if you are interested in how your information is brokered and who profits. He admits to being part of the problem since he developed a lot of the projects, but he also lays out a solution.
I met the guy years ago while working at SGI. Odd but brilliant.
I did Mention that you should be critical of any reporting on this, didn't I?
So, assuming the above is factual....
The Nation Of Islam is a racist sub sect of Islam. I'm sure many mainstream Muslims would say that it does not represent the True Faith. ( While the NOI folk would insist they were the Pure ones. )
Most important, the Nation Of Islam has long been a propaganda machine run by some murderous race hate exploiters. In direct Contrast to "normal Islam" where the color of your skin has nothing to do with your heart. Sure, Some are thrilled to torture you to death if your Faith varies a nanometer from their own, but skin color has nothing to do with the reason they want you dead or in slavery.
I have to point out ,,,From Wikipedia
By March 1964, Malcolm X had grown disillusioned with the Nation of Islam and its leader Elijah Muhammad. Expressing many regrets about his time with them, which he had come to regard as largely wasted, he embraced Sunni Islam. After a period of travel in Africa and the Middle East, which included completing the Hajj, he repudiated the Nation of Islam, disavowed racism and founded Muslim Mosque, Inc. and the Organization of Afro-American Unity. He continued to emphasize Pan-Africanism, black self-determination, and black self-defense.
In February 1965, he was assassinated by three members of the Nation of Islam.
So NOI has long been a Domestic Terrorist organization. Only really related to Mainstream Islam by the use of the Ideology/political structure to raise hatred & violence for the gain of evil leaders.
Since NOI has also been linked to Communist Party agitators and some funding from Russia, ( years ago... and now? ) it's pretty much a full blown lie-hate-power tool for evil men of all types...
Of course I could be wrong.
MSNBC may be right that the guy who kills cops and calls whitey "cracker" is really a secret member of a Montana Militia concerned with land rights.
I could also have Jennifer Lawrence show up later today and insist I teach her how to have a great orgasm. ( I could, but she doesn't know me, so, too bad for her, poor thing. )
It's not detailed in the story, but this is almost certainly mostly black on black crime. Keep in mind, these are the actual neighborhoods where BO cut his teeth organizing communities. Thankfully we aren't giving him enough time to organize the rest of the country to match. He has done what he can to sow the seeds though.
Police just shot a guy in Florida. Doesn't look like a good shoot at all. At least they didn't kill him. He had his hands up, while laying on the ground, and there was no gun.
North Miami: Therapist Assisting Patient Shot by Police While Holding Hands in the Air, Lawyer Says
Hootowl, This the one you are talking about? I would guess the cop had his finger in the wrong place and is trying to figure out what happened himself. If I'm right, it was a terrible lack of training and possible over reaction with rifles instead of pistols. Rifleman should be cover not negotiator. I hope his injury is not permanent.
It makes sense it starts with the gov'ts front line soldiers...cops.
Cops kill civilians. Civilians kill cops. Cops kill more civilians due to the fear or anger factor. Civilians kill more cops in retribution. And so the vicious cycle keeps feeding itself.
Not sure where it's all headed, but I think it definitely has started.
It happens anyway. It's just that at this point the media will be all over every instance.
They've created the narrative. Incited the idiots. Media in tow to perpetrate the myth and play devils advocate.
The higher the profile the more support there will be to "fix" the problem I.E. a national regulatory P.C. agency for the police and further gun restrictions on regular folk.
They're simultaneously downplaying domestic terrorism. Workplace violence or hate crimes blamed on the NRA and conservatives. You know, because people can't be trusted with guns, knives, and pressure cookers.
It's all a play to make big .gov bigger. It's been going on for decades. If it doesn't stop now it's going to get out of control. Our alphabet agencies and leaders stretch the law to their benefit everyday, destroying evidence, and go on unfettered. For some reason there's been no oversight and no retribution. Everyone seems to be in somebody's pocket. Corruption is rampant and nobody cares.
1. Makes rockstars of other-than-white folks killed by cops 2. Makes rockstars of batshit crazy folk who go on shooting sprees 3. Makes rockstars of islamists who go on shooting sprees BUT: 4. Fails to make rockstars of the victims 5. Fails to make rockstars of the first responders.
This whole system is totally on its head. Why not belittle the murderers for what they are, instead of highlighting their entire personality? Why not praise the virtues of the slain to honor their tragic passing? Why not recognize the brave and bold first responders who mean the difference between life and death for so many, and help get the mess straightened up so folk can go back to being sheep?
I guess I'm assuming that politicians and media companies and personalities are humans with souls. Maybe that's why I just don't get it.
