"Where's Court on this one?" He probably hasn't visited Rex's digs in Tellico Plains TN. I got to know Rex during the time I spent with Smoky Mountain HD/BUELL, and I sold him the 1125R that he modified in that video. He invited me and a choice few other local MC folk over for dinner one day... had a great time, and got to enjoy those two bikes and one other that wasn't seen in the video, a Honda motored roadracer IIRC. Rex is a great guy, with a great wife... he was and maybe still is designing nice riding gear, with a factory in Madisonville TN. I use a pair of his winter gloves when it gets nice and cold out. Fun times! |

Cool video. Rex was indeed a key figure early on. Erik and he bounced ideas around about packaging the HD motor well as other things. I don't know that he can be credited with helping start the company but he had input. He may have been the first to suggest the underslung shock and if not he certainly encouraged it. He also played a huge part in getting the bike to market. He leveraged money from Vetter, Continental and maybe some others to provide Erik some of the cash needs to make the RR1000. He also arranged to have it be the featured bike at the IMS shows that year. Really launched the brand with that so he is very important in /buell history. |
