Does anyone here know of a reasonable, reliable, motorcycle shipper? My son and I are looking at picking up a barn find BMW in Michigan. I would like somebody I could call and say "I have a bike in Lower Bupkis, Idaho (or Michigan). How much to ship it to Portland, Maine?" I would like someone who knows how to secure the bike so that it does not incur damage in transit. Hopefully, the price would be in the $600 range. Is this unreasonable? Thanks. |

I know several people who have had great results with U-ship. I've got a CBR1100XX in my garage that came from California to Georgia for $700 with a 5 day turnaround. |

Haulbikes.com but you need to speak to Pam Holland in the office or else it'll turn into a slow motion train wreck. |

I've used U-Ship twice for motorcycles. Last one was from California to Wisconsin for just under $500. Send me a message to awinefan at hotmail. I'll put you directly in touch with the shipper and you can save a few $$$ on the U-Ship cut. |

Haul bikes cost me 700 bucks to transport a 1991 Westwind from Maryland to Colorado. Great service, I recommend. Z |

Thanks for all the info. My son and I are going to start picking up motorcycle bargains where we think we can make a buck, either turning it around or breaking it. Thinking mostly European stuff, but some Japanese stuff is getting interesting. We are looking for a solution where we find a bike for sale at a good price, and need to factor in shipping for stuff that is not within a days drive from us. So, we need a price relatively quickly as stuff moves in a very short time. Hence the plea for a shipper we can call and say "I'm looking at a bike in East Bupkis, Idaho, looking for a price to ship to Portland, Maine". Please give me a ballpark shipping price. The shipping price can determine whether or not there is money to be made on the deal. |

Expedited shipping is a finicky mistress. I charge as much as I think my customers will pay, based on their level of desperation. That being said, rates for shipping something like a motorcycle are going to generally start around $500 as a base, and if you figure $1.00 per mile for anything beyond 500 miles-ish, you are probably safe. I can buy sprinter vans with dedicated teams for around $1.00 per mile, but most of them won't have the right kind of tie-downs. One place you can look to get some ideas on pricing from a big freight forwarder is Forward Air, but using them means you still have to get the bike to them, put it in one of their containers, then pick it up from the destination terminal. Prices are never going to be very consistent when people are bidding on your delivery. |
