I was never a big fan... not even a little.
But his music was being played a lot when I was growing up.

I do recall drinking my brothers Black Velvet.
Then throwing it up all over his dorm room while Prince was being blasted way back in the early 80's

57 is way to young.

Holy Cannoli, and WTF, over?!? He was an icon, and an amazing performer live... got to see him once, just an over the top show, worth every dollar spent on tickets.

We've got weather coming this evening... surely we'll see Purple Rain.

Godspeed, Sir.

I read in the news last week or the week before that his plane made an emergency landing and they rushed him to the hospital. News today says there's a criminal investigation team on site. Hope there was no foul play.

I was never a huge fan, but I appreciated his determination. Not a lot of people know about how the whole "artist formerly known as Prince" and the symbol thing came about.

Some of the songs are not safe for workplace. I won a dance off with Darling Nikki. I got caught totally off guard in the first round by a pudgy guy in sweat pants and shirt. Second round i asked for some Prince. That is one nasty song and dancing to it can be terrorably vulger. Just where I went. He refused to even try after the song ended. And no, I wont dance to it anymore. I knew some freaks that listened to anything he did. What insanity. Year older than me. Wont take much to pass him up, that is young.

Girl in a red corvette. .......

Not my favorite artist but he had talent. His movie, "Purple Rain" was surprisingly good. Sure, all he had back then was a Kawasaki 500 auto but he rode it with passion. He will be missed by many.

Chyna just passed away too. If you buy the "comes in threes" myth...... who's next? Andrew Dice Clay?

"Andrew Dice Clay?"

Dont lump him in with a musical legend.

Shame about Prince, hell of a musician

Looks like pulmonary failure from the flu at this point. Details will come later and my wag above may be wrong.

Hybrid, point taken. Dice was just the first no-longer big celeb I thought of from near Prince's celebrity peak.

The Artist Formerly Known As has kept on writing and performing. Actually was surprised how many of his songs I've enjoyed now that I'm out of work and caught the news cycle as of 6pm Eastern something time.

A lot of good stuff over a lot of years. Tons you'll never see on the news. "Red Corvette" I think will remain my favorite.

Been surfing around, reading stories about him, and found this... despite the graininess of the video, this is truly amazing.

Wasn't that long ago that the music industry icons had to get together to commemorate The White Duke... now, The Purple One.

Oh, and Aesquire, the bike he rode in Purple Rain was a CB900C with a Windjammer, IIRC. ; )

I was in that club, where they filmed some gigs for the movie, was working for another band just after the movie came out. I think we opened for Morris Day or he was there to watch I forget. Morris was good guy, band was too. Great freaking times. Rip Prince.

Thought it was a Kawasaki. ..
So i looked it up ....... ''81 Hondamatic CB400A. Nicely customized, if not in my colour choices.

You're right on the fairing. Google "purple rain motorcycle"

He rode it well. Hard to do in a movie.

There are performers and then there are artists. Not to place a value on either, but Prince was both; but far more artist than performer.
I didn't appreciated his work when it was being cranked out through the top 40 pipeline, but like a lot of artists/performers of that era, it sounds different through older ears.
Such a body of work is impressive.
RIP Prince.

He was a favorite performer of ours. We only saw him once, in Atlanta, 2004. We had a blast getting all gussied up. Me in my purple boa, Mr. Twisty in his purple star search sparkly shirt and purple top hat. The locals accosted Mr. Twisty all night, but I didn't mind. We enjoyed the music of Morris day as well that night. Rocking, funky good time.

Classmates of mine spent time at his club, Glam Slam, in Mpls. One 5'10 friend actually met him one night and said, "he is so short!". I've ridden by Paisley Park on my Uly too many times to count. It is a magical place, even from the outside.

His music was the soundtrack of my life in high school, college, and beyond. In FL where no front plate was required on my truck, I had " the symbol" for my front plate.

He was so pro-woman! He was secure enough in who he was to wear lace and high heels and gave once unknown female musicians like Sheila E and many others, a chance.

He gave back to the community. Most people in the twin cities and MN loved him. That is, unless you were a sound and lights person or roadie. He tended to be a control freak. But aren't a lot of creative people like that?

Yes, I am heart broken. RIP, purple one.

I shot some video of Springsteen doing Purple Rain last night and it was a hit in the office today.

Where he gets his energy . . . . I don't know . . . but they went for 3 hours and 45 minutes non-stop . . total balls out rock and roll.

Purple Rain was definitely a hit.

And wow, Court. The Springsteen cover was was awesome. And the timing of that hotel print was serendipity.

Any Prince fans...I picked up a book when we were in the twin cities over spring break. "Prince....The Man and the Music". Author is Matt Thorne.

Its gonna be weird heading to MN this summer with zero chance of seeing him perform or running into him at Target or the grocery store....

Thanks twisty and court for the great tribute.
That profile photo is just so cool.
I hope they make Paisley Park a museum so people can be close with his art and music.

Holy Crap... I'll have to grab that on the smart TV and pipe it through the hifi.

I took the GF out to Nashvegas to see Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, with Steve Winwood opening a couple of years ago (somehow it seemed THEY should open for HIM ; ) )......
