I've been looking at an RS and I've got the bug.... But I'm thinking why would I choose this over an RX? Ohlins, a bit lighter maybe, lots of carbon fiber, possible collectors item.
Money? I thought the RS was the high dollar machine Erik originally built. I think it weighed 350 pounds! The RX is much more affordable and 10 more HP! The RX has the cam technology that swirls the intake and gained 10 HP and got 50 mpg.
Street = RX Track bike if you have lots of money = RS
The RS, at least from sitting on it in a showroom, feels a lot more exotic than the RX. The RX/SX are fine, they just feel like the next gen of the 1125R/CR, but the RS feels like it is in a totally different ballpark, kind of like a higher model Lamborghini vs a Corvette.
Being that the RX/SX are newer models, you do get some newer bells and whistles like the (in my opinion) nicer dashboard, LED headlight, traction control, real seat, more power in stock trim, and passenger seat/pegs.
The RS is an exotic. While it makes less stock horsepower, it is also lighter. RX is more comfortable, more practical, and more, er, replaceable. Frank is right. If you want a lambo equivalent, it is the RS. If you want a fast, good handling bike that can be a daily rider, then the RX.
I was more of a hooligan type rider than a racer type, although, it'd still be a hard choice. Neither would stay in stock trim for very long either way
Hey Glitch- where in the heck did that photo originate?! How cool to see both bikes side by side, and the SX laying a dank drifter patch!!
After drooling over Froggy's bike, and him buzzing the group on the way back to camp up in WV last year (EEEK!), I'd go for that one. Then I'd work up a good front-end treatment for distance riding, detachable, to drop it once I get to destination.
Yeah, Frank scared the CRAP out of me when he buzzed everyone in WV. I was on my S2 coping with a tail-wag issue and all of a sudden bbbbrrrrAAAAAAPPPPPPPP and there's a blur off to my right, rocketing past me.
Glitch - LOVE that photo, please post the source!
And I have to say...I refused to ride Frank's bike at WV. I know me. I'd love it, and that would be expensive. However, watching the 650ib videos? I'm tempted...VERY tempted.
My guess is that the smokey bike came around the corner slow while the knee dragger passed him on the inside. It would be too cool to see both come around side by side.
Just watched the video with Geoff and Danny.... I had to take the RS for a short ride Thursday to lunch. Need to get the can to Kevin to weld the bracket on. Everything fits and it's held together with springs for now.
