A towering giant of a songwriter. I was lucky enough to see him perform once at the Shed, always loved his songs. "Home Grown Tomatoes" will be on my mind, along with many other songs from him.
Wow... if you take the time to surf around on Youtube, no telling what you can find. Here's a gem, Clark playing one of his most famous songs with several of his friends.
The local news had a story on him last night, touted him as a Nashville great. I took notice because you mentioned him here. I had never seen or heard of him before. Probably one who wrote some good stuff others took to the main stream.

That's right Vern... basically EVERYONE in Nashville worked with him and recorded his songs. He's not nearly as well known as the Hag, but every bit as prolific a writer.
I need to refresh my CD collection with one or two of his recordings. I once owned "Workbench Songs"... a track on there titled "Magdalene" just re-inserted itself as an earworm, dang it. Haven't heard it in years, but...
Wow, found another great vid... sorry folks, but gotta share these!
Got my replacement CD today of "Workbench Songs"... put it in, listened to "Magdalene" again...
I'd thought all along that the vocal accompaniment was someone else, (I'll remember and edit later), but she's listed as "Morgan Hayes"...
That name rang a little bell. Turns out she married Chris Stapleton, and is known as one of the best singers in Nashvegas. On his/their "Traveler" recording, she sings at an otherworldly level... the angels will have to chase her!
I've seen the ASO play, but wasn't really aware of her as an individual. ASO really puts on a good show. Looks like she died doing exactly what she loved.
