It's been pointed out that the new Roadster has hubless rims... And I believe that the rubber engine mount is a Buell inovation... What other bits or influences have made their way into Sportys? |

Did I just fart in the room or what? Having a Firebolt, an X1, and an 883 - I've got the sportster engine in three different trims. I'd really like to know what other co-mingling has gone on... |

I wonder if the Sportys acquired the upgraded crank and rods from the 08-up XB? I believe the XR1200 had them, along with the better oil pump. The current Sporty still seems to have the old oil pump arrangement. |

Hughlysses you are right the XR 1200 Harley has the one and one half inch crank pin and bigger sprocket shaft bearing as well as the 2008 and later Buell oiling system , it also has oil cooled heads (cast into heads around intake and exhaust valve seats are oil passages) that help pull a lot of heat away , the Buell's did not have that ,and none of the sportsters have any of the XR or late model Buell mods. Those latest Buells and the XR engines are very reliable and can take some big performance mods reliably. |

While researching something on Twin Cam motors I ran into a site that was bashing the Twin Cam and spoke about how the Sportster engine was near perfection and that Harley should dump the Twin Cam and make a larger Sportster engine to compete with Victory and Indian. They made a lot of great points and it was interesting reading. |

And I believe that the rubber engine mount is a Buell inovation... Wasn't it done on the HD Road Glide back in 1980? Of course, I understand that Erik had a lot to do with the design work on that. Still, it's a HD thing back then. I'm pretty sure the Buell rubber mount is quite a different animal. At least on my XB. I've always understood the cylinder heads on Sporties since (I think) about 2004 or something like that to be a direct Buell design, and responsible for a nice bump in power. |
