My personal vision of Hell is to endlessly have to ride a tired Honda 175 from Boston to Washington, DC and back in rush hour traffic.

What's yours?

This sounds like hell to me.

Now the seas rise up as serpents
Spawned from the mouth of Earth's surface
As the skies now fall fast burning
Open wide and face the suffering

The inferno spews out hell's horde
Casting the flames upon our world
As death eclipses all the light
We make our last stand, 'til death: Fight!

Taking a swim in an Amazonian river and needing to pee- letting it go, and suddenly one of those little spiny fishies swim up my urethra!

Seriously though- there are countless versions of hell on this earth, dunno where to start. Being a parent whose child is raped or killed senselessly, or watching a loved one deal with Alzheimer's or another terminal disease- those probably top the list.

I read a story about the accursed Boko Haram group kidnapping children, mostly girls, drugging them, and then sending them out on suicide missions. For the whole group of those fiends,
I would dedicate my life to creating all types of Hell for them, and keep them alive as long as possible before dispatching them to the real thing.

As a best buddy, why dontcha work a long-term plan to help him resolve or replace his situation? Living in "paradise" under those circumstances does sound hellish.
He's dealing with himself as a "head case" so to speak, so maybe you can leverage some sense and sensibility into his life as his friend/"shrink"... ; )

Personally, as to hell, I can add this: Losing a truly GREAT dog, my girlfriend's best dog ever, by not paying attention when two women were walking their Great Danes in the park next to my property... all I had to do was bark a command, and Chloe would respond perfectly off leash... they both lunged and attacked, eviscerating her. She bled out on in my lap on the way to the veterinary ER, and couldn't be stitched back or saved in any way.
Earlier that day we had a guy come out and lay the chalk lines preparing to fence in my lot, of all things, and I was on the phone talking with him when it happened.

Hell was mine, ours, for quite some time after that. Still scarred in my soul for that day.

Back to more levity, sorry... has anyone seen the movie "Seven"? Truly hellish, but some of the best performances as actors and screenplay I've ever seen.

I heard a pretty profound characterization of hell recently that rings true; hell is the absence of all/any good and an eternal addiction to selfish pursuits.

Like Rick said.

I understand the Hell, being further away from God's warmth, that it gets colder, the further away from God you get, and all you have to do is accept Him, and strive to be the best you can be, trying to get closer to God and His warmth. I get that.
I'm saying the not being able to communicate when you want to, not to mention when you need to is a living hell (small h)
Being left out of casual conversations because you're two or three words behind is a living hell.
People meeting you for the first time, and your confidence is shaken because you just told them, "Hi you're nice looking" instead of "Fine thank you, and yourself." is a living hell.
Your friends seeming like they're talking over you, or it just seems that way, because you can't keep up, is a living hell.
Knowing everything you've ever known, but can't share your knowledge, even to the most patient, is a living hell.
Making 30+ spelling errors in this post alone, and asking your wife to read it to make sure it all makes sense, and she doesn't even know what the first half was trying to say...either, is a living hell.
Y'all don't know this because I take great care when writing, and you read it with my intelligent sophisticated southern drawl, but,
it took an hour to write all this, plus the first draft, was at least that long(the one Ann read before I hit "Post this Message"

By the way seizures suck out loud, mainly because I don't have really mild ones, and can cause more damage.
When I have one I see everything, and I want to stay there...

This might help so called Christians understand what Hell actually is.

https://www.kingjamesbibleonline.org/Acts-2-31/

For those who couldn't be bothered, The Bible actually says that Jesus spent three days in hell. It's the grave.

You do understand that God tested his son... right?

Matthew 4:1-11

4 Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil.

2 And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungred.

3 And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread.

4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

5 Then the devil taketh him up into the holy city, and setteth him on a pinnacle of the temple,

6 And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone.

7 Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.

8 Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them;

9 And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me.

10 Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.

11 Then the devil leaveth him, and, behold, angels came and ministered unto him.
