I'm sure we all know they are closing. As sad as that is, there are still a few days left to get some of those things you know you need, or know you will need, or just what you've been wanting for a long time. I just ordered Crossroad bars from their bargain bin while getting something I needed. I've been wanting them for a long time, but the price kept me away. I actually had a couple belts but ended up buying what is pretty much the "kit" for keeping a Ulysses for the next 25 years. I looked at what they sell for and the sentimental value I ascribe to mine . . . after Erik and my wife conspired to present it to me for my birthday . . . and decided that, even though it hasn't been ridden in 2 years, I want to keep it. Some of the parts have gone obsolete and a few will. The parts, primarily the isolators, that are unique and impossible to source elsewhere are the things that will turn a Uly from a motorcycle to a paperweight in years to come. My plan is to crate and keep all the "apocalypse" parts in a couple shipping cases and use them only when I don't have (I have a pretty good supply now) the parts or the sources have dried up. It's a pretty good investment but with some of the parts pries already on the rise I take the approach that I can either sell the cases with the bike if I ever decide to sell or I can sell them outright and triple my $$$ in 10 years. It's a gamble . . . but it's cheap insurance. | ||

I already had a front motor mount isolator on my parts shelf. They are on deep back order at Harley. Al does not see getting anymore of the fronts in prior to closing. So, he is not taking orders for them. It is a good idea to go to his site and take a look at what he has for your model. A lot of items are marked down. | ||

Definately worth having an isolator on the shelf. I do. But I've been thinking about the "paperweight making" parts, and I am no longer convinced the isolators are one of them. Best if you have a spare to put on, but if you don't, you can buy castable polyurethane of various durometers, and it would not be that difficult to use an old isolator to make a jig and a mold and pour in new "flexy bits". It would be a non trivial amount of work, but I think it is doable. I bet you could machine a block of material of the right hardness and press that in as well. Maybe with a few extra plates to keep the right bits captive. It would make a 30 minute isolator swap into a two week project though,at least the first time. Meanwhile, if you replace your isolators, don't pitch the old ones. Keep them as cores for somebody in the future who tools up to rebuild these things. | ||

I keep a spare set of rear wheel bearings because I don't want to wait for them to come in when I could have the bike back up and rolling in 2 hours with them on hand. A motor mount isolator or belt could keep you down for weeks right now. That is a pretty good list, and some of the items should be kept on hand in quantity as routine expendables. I do disagree with the plug wires kept being OEM as there are better after market pieces. | ||

Those after market wires are about 4 times the cost of OEM though. | ||

The fix may be as simple as a flat hardened washer on the ends of the rubber rods. Cut a ring in the center bushing to allow the bushing to move without striking the washer. Should probably run this by Jake at GlidePro, he might be able to put this into production just like his mounts for Harleys. (Message edited by Greg_E on April 09, 2016) | ||

Just installed the new plugs and plug wires I got from American Sport Bike and went on the sight to be sure the NGK DPR9EA-9 are the right plugs and it says they are closed. I also got a new belt and another set of those slick frame Techspec Gripster pads before they closed. Have a good retirement Al and Joanne. | ||

I swapped over to the new belt 2 nights ago. That's the plugs I run in my 08. I'll miss American Sport Bike. |
