The vast majority of gun owners want constitutional law. The vast majority of Muslims want Sharia law. If we're to believe the polling. And their holy book. |

Froggy, I can tell you that comic was drawn by an anti-gun metrosexual who has never had proper fire-arms training, based on the fact that the "right wing NRA republican racist religious tea party conservative" has his finger on the trigger. I really wish I could find a pdf of the article published by "tip of the spear" magazine for SOF. I think the title was, "if you want to understand your enemy, read what he reads". The author of the article cites the most popular literature among "radical" islamists. A few of the writings cover the fact that it's extremely important for muslims in the west to be "moderate" and blend into society. Gain access and placement. Win friends and influence people and be a good citizen. That way, muslims flourish. And then, some day, when the islamic state has established enough of a foothold to roll into town, the "moderate" muslims will have no choice but to comply with Sharia and enforce the mandates of their Islamist leaders, and start raping and murdering. Or else. |

The cartoon was funny, but at the expense of the cartoonist (I think). Perhaps they got their own joke, but just executed it poorly, but I don't think so. They were right that some gun owners fail to make the distinction between a Muslim and a Jihadist Terrorist. This proves that 1 in 50 people in any random group that was picked by any criteria you can think of (including last digit in their phone number) turns out to be an ignorant . What was funny, or maybe sad, was that the cartoon author further demonstrated that when he is part of those 50 selected people, it turns out he is the one that is an ignorant . Pretty much one of every two Americans owns a firearm, half the population. If they were screaming at every Muslim and demanding they leave the country, you would never hear anything else. And given the number, a large number of Muslims are *also* gun owners themselves. Or perhaps the mean the "gun lobby" (which we will call a lobby like we call all these other groups lobbies: the "abortion lobby" and the "ACLU lobby" and the "global warming lobby" and the "tax the rich lobby"). So the cartoonist can no doubt point to the extensive NRA postings, podcasts, interviews, and position papers that mandate that only white Christians be permitted to own firearms. Because, you know, the NRA is really keen on narrowing down the second amendment so fewer people can own guns. Any, all that cartoon author proved was that bigots exist everywhere (which, surprise, we knew) and that he or she is one of them (which is at least a new piece of information we previously didn't know). |

The real problem with Froggy's MEME is that it tries to turn another MEME on it's head, and it just doesn't work if you think about it for two seconds. You've got the pro-gun meme...
And Froggy's version of trying to turn it on it's head... The pro-gun MEME actually is representative of reality. Gun crimes are committed by an incredibly small percentage of gun owners, yet they constantly are trying to pass laws that restrict all potential gun owners. By comparison we have a small percentage of Muslims who are terrorists (I'm willing to bet a MUCH higher percentage than gun owner who commit gun crimes though) and the MEME complains of gun owners simply voicing their opinion. In reality, the laws that have been passed, and the enforcement of those laws have been incredibly careful to NOT step on the toes of the "peaceful" Muslims. It's pretty much the exact opposite of the gun owners plight. Further comparison, the vast majority of gun owners are more than happy with severe penalties for those who commit gun crimes. When there is a Muslim terrorist OTOH, groups such as CAIR actually rally to impede trying to figure out what connections the terrorist may have with their support networks. Again, pretty much the exact opposite of what is being mocked. Other than small details like that though, it's right on target. |
