To wave or not to wave... buy a Harley. Your question is answered. A very Onion-esque writing: http://www.revzilla.com/common-tread/man-purchases -harley-davidson-motorcycle |

I always wave. Harley, Honda, Yamaha, hell even a Kawasaki rider, I'll wave. I even wave at a kid on a bicycle with a card in his spokes. Two wheels is two wheels. |

Around here it's the full bearded, tattooed fat bikers on the full dressers that don't even look at you let alone acknowledge another Harley. I get more waves from chick bikers than any other. But my favorites are the Amish kids getting outta school. They pull over and stop and wave. I get a kick out of it. |

I even wave at scooters. Catches some of them off guard. |

I'm sorry but the kid in that article is a complete moron and in no way can that story be true. Safety was a big consideration in his decision to purchase the big Harley machine. No one can be that dumb. |

I don't call it a wave. More like a two finger salute. I do it most of the time, even when I'm on my Harley, with my beard and tattoos (I don't leave 'em at home), and no my belly isn't very big. Sometimes when I'm on the Buell I don't salute/wave. Nothing personal, it's just that I'm likely leaning in a curve (like the Buell ad above) |

This is also a thing done on snowmobiles but it also serves a purpose. You wave with how many riders are in your party so anyone on coming knows what to expect each person holds up the count of who is left in the train. It also shows you see the person and it's just comradory. But being a guy who owns both a Harley and a Buell it is funny on the Buell I rarely get a wave from a Harley. Same outfit same look on the Harley and I get waves from all accept the ones that are very safety oriented or the mighty ones that think they are a real biker. You know the ones that work at the bank but on Sat wears cut offs, a head band and does not shave! I generally give a nice wave and if the wife is with she will do it. I just think it is a respect thing the ones who wave are the ones that would turn around to see if you need help if you are on the side of the road. |
