Sooo...

Just got my wisdom teeth pulled.

I had to look at them. It's a little hard to discard parts of your body. They all looked good on the outside. One was pretty much rotted out on x ray and the rest were okay, I guess. One always had stuff stuck in front of it, and another always had stuff behind it. $1k to get rid of mostly good teeth.

There was a young girl in there crying and moaning for about half an hour. The doc thanked me for being his calm patient of the day. While she was leaving he told her that she wouldn't have to come back for that again until her teens. I told her, "unless you wait a little longer than you should." The doc said, "yeah, look at him, he's smiling," to which I replied, "yep, best day ever!"

The left teeth didn't hurt and are bleeding less. The right teeth gave some discomfort and are bleeding more. I've seen people laid out following this type of thing, but it's probably mostly the Percocets they take afterwards.

The staff was surprised I was getting on so well. I just said, "it is what it is, I guess."

We'll see how it is when the swelling sets in and the numbness wears off.

I was a little light headed right afterwards. They really crank on them things. Once I got up and took a few steps I was fine.

Wisdom teeth pulled at age 38. I wish I was wiser and got them pulled when it was free...

The taste of blood is oddly refreshing.

Just make sure you follow the directions to avoid a dry socket...that is where the real pain sets in.

I've read all about it. Sounds terrible.

Ugh. Feel better.

Just had my one remaining wisdom tooth filled an hour ago. I don't know why they didn't take it when I was 18 and they took the others. It's in decent shape though. My head hurts, but no percocets for me (not that they offered, but I wouldn't have said no). I'll try Vodka instead.

Lol.

Hopefully this is the end of the current saga for me. In the past month I've had a root canal/crown, four fillings, and finally the wisdom teeth. Those wisdoms took up a lot of real estate. My mouth feels empty now. Everyone says it's for the better.

I don't know if I'll ever forget that crackle of my teeth breaking away from the bone.

I feel surprisingly good. Tomorrow morning is the true test.

The office billed the uppers as routine extractions and the lowers as surgical. They all came out easily enough.

On the fillings, one of the cavities went into the root. The dentist said I may feel some discomfort. That was an understatement! I'm fairly tolerant of pain, but drilling into a tooth root is not something I'm willing to put up with if I can help it. She was trying to avoid the local anesthetic, but I'll take a few needle pricks anytime.

Fun.

I was 54 years old before having my wisdom teeth removed. I don't know why I waited, it was pretty much painless, I helped the doctor during the procedure..."Yeah...I think you left a piece behind" and went fishing the next day! If I had known how easy it was going to be, I wouldn't have put it off for so long and suffered through all of the infections I had through the years. In fact, when I went to see the surgeon due to an infection they scheduled me for a week or more out, I told them if they didn't get me in sooner they probably would never see me again because as soon as the infection went away I would forget about it until next time. They suddenly found a spot for me the next morning.
Happy recovery!

My teeth are like stars; they come out at night. Having had the majority of my teeth pulled over the years, (I'm down to six of my original teeth left) I strongly urge everybody to take care of your real teeth. Plastic teeth are better than no teeth, but they aren't nearly as good as the real thing.
And that's the truth.

I had my wisdom teeth removed about the same age, a few years ago. I hurt for at least a month. They didn't say it was dry socket and they were surprised it hurt so much but I rotated ice packs on my face in between phone calls at work and all evening at home, for at least a month.

At least they aren't pushing my teeth back after braces though (bottom 2 were pushing forward).

Damn, just thinking about it makes my mouth hurt...lol.

What are these wisdom teeth that everyone is speaking of?

I never got 'em, never will.

Don't mean to ...

My son doesn't have any wisdom teeth either, I saw his xrays, dentist told me it happens.

Had all four of mine yanked at 61, they took two adjacent ruined molars same time. I felt so f-ing good having those things out I never even took the meds after the first pill. Amazing how much pain you become accustomed to and then when its gone...

Regret not having them out back when I was young and had great insurance. You younger guys take heed about your teeth.

WAAAY back I had all 4 wisdom teeth AND 4 pre-molars removed, all in one sitting, prior to having braces. Arranged for a buddy going to dentist school to chaperone me, even had "Comfortably Numb" queued up on the cassette player in the car. They set up an IV for liquid Valium, told me to count back from 10.....

Apparently halfway through the procedure, I remember hearing some heinous crunching sounds, opened my eyes... Doc was in my face, yanking on the last tooth, with my buddy watching closely over his shoulder. "Hey nurse, give him another dose, he's coming around...
After I got dropped off, I woke up well enough to start doing a carb rebuild on my RZ350. Bled for a week, though.

Good luck, hope you heal fast!

Wow. That's a lot of tooth pulled at one time.

I had an extra set of 12 permanent teeth come in, in my early teens. They all came in perfectly, which I guess is rare. I had nightmares of my teeth falling out, then had teeth coming loose. It was terrifying. Thankfully there were fresh teeth under those. My younger sister was stuck with a lot of baby teeth. My parents said that I stole her teeth. Nature is weird. My new new set of canines were ridiculously sharp for some time.

Laying down sucks. Other than that things are fine.

I've been reading that pulling wisdom teeth when they are new is much easier as they aren't rooted as well. Good to know...

Oh well, I got 18 years of use out of them. Now I won't be digging food out of my gums every meal, or accidentally biting huge chunks out of my inner cheeks anymore.

The Navy used to do it all the time. My civilian dentist said my wisdom teeth where fine, however, the navy dentist said they had to go and pulled all four at once and then handed me a bottle of tylenol for the pain. Some clown wanted to see my knife collection I put him against a wall told him in a very slury tone to shut up and leave me alone. By the SP's recommendation - due to the pain - I got a room to myself for the rest of my A school in Great Lakes - lol - lost over 40 pounds due to my diet of soup, cream of wheat, and apple sauce and booze for medicinal purposes - still made the top 10% in the class though - lol

I'm on the same diet, though don't have 40 lbs to lose...minus the booze.

Had my first solid piece of meat this morning...a pre-cooked sausage patty. It's a start.

The soft diet is a little depressing when all the stuff you want to eat is staring at you.

I didn't get any swelling, and the pain is mild, so I can't complain too much.

Ibuprofen is my friend.

I think I'll have scrambled eggs tonight.
