Long story short: A young family I know is struggling financially. They've got two small boys, are behind on their bills, and the husband has gotten a used motorcycle to commute back and forth to work (180-mile round trip) to save on gas money. The problem is it's now 30 degrees when he leaves for work in the morning and he can't possibly wear enough clothes to stay warm. It's unpleasant at best, and dangerous at worst. I'm asking BadWeB for a little help here. I'm trying to get the husband into a used heated jacket and gloves, or raise enough money to buy him a new set outright. I'd pick up the tab myself, but my money is tight, too. He's 5'6", maybe 160-170 pounds. Anyone know of some decent heated gear for cheap, or willing to donate to the cause? Thanks, Ferris |

Folks can also donate to my PayPal account at: fastferris (at) gmail (dot) com 100% of any $$ donated will be used to buy a Gerbing heated jacket, gloves and dual-controller for the rider mentioned in the opening post. If there is money raised above and beyond the cost of the gear, I will donate the money to charity, and document the donation here on BWB. I've helped help a lot of folks on BWB over the years, and I wouldn't be asking if this wasn't important. Full disclosure: This rider is not a Bueller, nor do they hang out on BWB. In fact, they don't even know I'm doing this. Ferris |

From the sound of his situation, I think perhaps the best use of the extra money, if there is any, would be to simply give it to him. Gas money |

I finally let his wife in on our fundraising efforts (he still doesn't know - he's still at w*rk), and told her I had one stipulation: if there is any money raised above the actual cost of the gear, it is to be donated to charity. We're at $185 so far... |

I set the GoFundMe goal at $500; this should cover the gear and tax, with some left over. Gerbing gear is priced right on eBay, but I want him to be able to actually try on the jacket and gloves before pulling the trigger; it's critical that this stuff fits right. He's got an IMS coming up in his 'hood, which would be a great place to try on different sizes and get a great deal at the same time. I've suggested this to his wife. |

We're up to $355.00 - thank you! Thanks to y'all's generosity I was able to go ahead and order the controller from a vendor on eBay; it's being shipped directly to our rider in need: http://www.ebay.com/itm/111799489971 This one's pretty slick; it has a remote control that you can mount in a convenient "eyes front" location - on the left handlebar, for example - so the actual controller can stay tucked away. Nifty. Thanks, folks; y'all rock. We've had the missus in "tears of joy" mode several times this afternoon/evening; she loves her hubby very much. As soon as our rider can try on some jackets and gloves to determine sizing we can get them coming, too. God bless. Ferris |

I'm calling this fundraiser done, and a complete success: between BWB and GoFundMe we raised $450.00 in a little over 17 hours - awesome! After GFM deducts their fees, and adding a little surplus from the PayPal donations (I used PayPal funds to order the controller last night), we should be within a few dollars, give or take, of what we need to get the Gerbing jacket and gloves coming. It'll take several days for the GFM funds to hit my bank account; I'll keep this thread updated. Fellas, thank you from the bottom of my heart. You have no idea how much this means to the parties involved. God bless you all. Ferris |
