You think that's bad, try skirting the 3 dimensional "inverted wedding cake" of a control zone in a glider. Better yet, I had a buddy land on a beach near Boston in his hang glider at the end of a cross country flight. The police told him to fly off the beach right now! He told the cop he would carry it up to the parking lot and fold it up. No, he was told, fly away, NOW! It took him 20 minutes to explain to the very angry officer that gliders can't fly away from the beach at sea level with no freaking engine. That's not a joke. |

A buddy grounded his sailboat on the rocks at the Dahlgren Surface Weapons Cwnter in MD. The Shore Patrol told him the same thing: "You need to leave, now!" "Um, first I have to fix the hole in the bottom, and then wait for high tide..." "No, you need to go, now!" He ignored them, went about repairing the boat. A voice behind him asked if he could help in any way. "Yeah, you can get me a cup of coffee", he snapped. So the Base Commandant got him a cup... |

Dahlgren in in Virginia, although technically your friend's boat was in Maryland since the Potomac River is completely in Maryland up to the Virginia shoreline. |

But he was on the rocks, so I suppose they were Virginia rocks. I stand corrected, and now recall that it's before I get to Johnny Boy's, not after... :-) |

Similar blimps are located near Key West. Their lines have been run into by private planes. https://www.bigpinekey.com/blimp-fat-albert-histor y/ |
