Hello Slaughter,
We at Erik Buell Racing Motorcycle Forum Sponsored by AF1 Racing, inc. would like to wish you a happy birthday today!
While many things didn't come true as literally as shown in the movie, they did get a surprising amount right or at least close.
We don't have hoverboards like in the movie, but we do have some levitation tech including some that use magnets and some that use propellers.
We didn't get Jaws 19 but this year we are got both Fast and Furious 7 and also Star Wars 7, and most of the other high grossing films are sequels. James Bond ain't slowing down either.
They showed holograms, that is a reality with Microsoft Hololens now
Mr.Fusion converts waste into energy much like how biofuels are made.
At one part Marty is at an arcade, and kids were gaming without touching the device, much like you can with Kinect on Xbox.
They were spot on with video calls however, Skype, FaceTime, Google Hangouts all work great for video chatting, with Skype being able to run on large TVs like shown in the movie.
I need to rewatch the movie now to see what else there is, but that is what I remember off the top of my head.
Good read, and I totally agree. One of the best Movies, Ever.
What IMHO "Back To The Future" did that no film I can think of before it did, was put time travel in a personal, and relatable way.
"The Time Machine" considered a distant future, others man with dinosaurs, or, even better, the paradoxes of Time Travel, ( necessary for the plot of "BTTF", and a Lot of Dr. Who ) and it's application to Fate. As In "Terminator", a film that besides being Arnold's acting breakthrough, was ripping good SF as well as a good action movie.
Back To The Future put time travel, and the nature of Progress, on a personal level.
It's not that any one "prediction" is correct, it's that Future Us will be Us and we will take technology for granted, later, that today is ridiculed for being silly Science Fiction.
Which, as we discuss a Movie using a communication system originally designed to bypass the burned out cities left behind by a Nuclear War........ is EXACTLY what has actually happened.
