My brother's nephew Zane, has been diagnosed with cancer in his GI tract. He's a great guy with a wife and three kids, fourth on the way. He's looking at lot's of travel between his home in Michigan and Mayo Clinic in the future. He's an incredibly hard worker that has helped out many people in the past. He doesn't make a lot of money in his job, and already had his hands full. If you can find your way to help out, it would be appreciated. Here's a link to the gofundme site that has been set up to help him out. https://www.gofundme.com/gz4n6png# Thanks in advance for anything you can give.
quote: The picture you see is of Zane Barnes with his wife and four kids (fourth in the womb in this pic). Zane is 33 years old and him and his wife have been married for 10 years. Their kids are Zac who is 9, Kyler who is 7, Karlee who is 5 and now Zebrina who is just weeks old! Zane works at Elmer's and is and always has been a devoted, hard working employee. If you know Zane, you also know he doesn't like to slow down. On top of working at Elmer's and taking care of his family, he typically does side jobs such as roofing and building decks, which is something he loves doing. This August , Zane was diagnosed with a rare incurable cancer called Adenocarcinoma in the GI tract. The cancer is in his abdomen in a fluid that fills in the abdominal cavity. The cancer cells have attatched themselves to the wall of his abdomen. He has started this battle with a lot of unknowns about the cancer as well as an infection in his abdomen. There are still a lot of unknowns about this cancer even beyond it being very rare. As far as treatments, his treatments will be every two weeks. He started his first treatment at the Mayo clinic in Minnesota and will possibly continue them back home. Here is how you can help. Not including their deductible for their insurance, they have and will be incurring a lot of expenses, not to mention taking care of four young children. Anything you donate will go towards medical, travel and any other expenses/needs that come up for the family. Zane and his family are so grateful for any support you can offer them in their time of need.

Anyone else noticed that the security certificate gives an error? The names don't match. And yes I found this because I was going to donate. |

I didn't get a cert warning. Cert matches the URL and it was issued by a ca that my browser trusts. |

Greg, thank you. Malott442, for the record, it's my brother's nephew. Perhaps it's a fine distinction, but I want to be 100% clear in asking for any sort of charitable donations. As for paypal, I'll check into it. |

You aren't obligated to do anything Julie, you are free to contribute to help or not. The difference is we won't make you help them at the point of a gun. As a side note someone who would come on to this thread and say the kind of things you said here really does have serious emotional or mental health issues. You need help, let go of the hate. Don't tell yourself it's OK to hate those that hate. Thats what *everyone* thinks about those they hate, that they deserve to be hated. You are no different then anyone else who is hateful and intolerant. I'll go contribute now on behalf of Julie. |

Julie, Your reply seams a little off topic and disconcerting, in that John Galt was a selfish, only two dimensional character in an imaginary tale. This topic deals with the struggles of real man and his family. The idea that philosophies of man should be enough reason to help only ourselves and not show compassion and mercy to others removes us from living up to our true potential. There is more to be learned from "Atlas shrugged". The book of "Job" has better lessons. I will pray for your heart. Sifo, done, |

I vote ban hammer. And if a custodian could retrieve the IP address of every device used by this user's posts, banning those as well would be nice. That post was misguided, hurtful, non-productive, and terrible. "Julie", you are a dysfunction of this website. The world has enough negativity WITHOUT your nonsensical and hateful posts. I hope I am not overstepping boundaries, but I feel I am speaking on behalf of the majority of members in saying you are not welcome here anymore. We encourage, for the most part, free thoughts written down for the purpose of debate, education, and entertainment. Almost every word of every post you have "contributed" to this site has been aimed directly towards insulting other members' opinions and situations. This man (and his beautiful family) is being met with an unfortunate and dire situation. We have all felt pain and hopelessness in our lives, and many of us have been blessed with the compassion of others during those trying times. I, for one, pass on help to those who need it when I can afford it. If I gave away nothing more than positive vibes, I would have at least given the world around me a nudge in the right direction. But you feel somehow entitled, obligated even, to come in here and start stirring up hatred and ill feelings. What would possess you to do such a thing? What sort of sickness would even compel a person to do such a thing? Shame on you. Shame on you and the hatred you share with us. |

I'm with Malott... most of those sites take a percentage I'm not happy with. Tom, if you would, please PM me with Zane's address, and I'll send them a little piece of paper in the snail-mail. "Julie"... what a horrible thing to say on a thread that simply asks folks to help, if they can, someone in need. Your politics have severely infected your humanity. |

Still waiting to hear about if Zane has PayPal. When I hear, I'll be sure to forward the info to those who request it. Thank you all for your support. It's pretty amazing to see true charity in action. For the most part BadWeb has some very stand up folks that really humble me from time to time. I don't think I can adequately express what it means to see this from this end of asking for help. |

I finally got word back on an email to used to donate directly to Zane. If anyone wants to use that instead, just let me know and I'll PM you his email. I found out that he was slow in responding because he was actually at Mayo Clinic this weekend. Apparently his treatment kind of sucks! Again, thank you all, even if it was only words of compassion. Folks like you make BadWeb what it is. |

So the remarks about he percentage going to GoFundMe had me wondering about them. First, I'm not sure where the 9-11% figure came from. I found where they claim to take 5% plus another 3% to cover transaction fees from credit cards. While bigger than PayPal fees, they do provide a worthwhile service. From their questions page...
quote:Does it cost anything? While it's free to create and share your online fundraising campaign, GoFundMe will deduct a 5% fee from each donation that you receive. Since our fee is deducted automatically, you'll never need to worry about being billed or owing us any money. A small processing fee of about 3% will also be deducted from each donation. Please see Pricing & Fees for more info.
I wasn't sure if the were non-profit or for-profit. They are for-profit. I'm not trying to paint this as good or bad. I just wanted to know. It actually seem like a pretty low overhead for a for-profit organization. They do IMO, provide a worthwhile service. It looks like an interesting business model. For what it's worth, you all have my blessing if you choose to sidetrack this thread in a discussion of this, or similar services. |

That was my thought. Even 10%, while steep, is (IMHO) pretty fair in terms of the time, risks, and hassles associated with trying to coordinate charitable giving. Cash contributions can trigger tax headaches, or even money laundering investigations, on people just giving up their time to try and help somebody out. |

Paypal tends to be hit and miss with donation campaigns, I've heard time and time again of accounts getting frozen indefinitely for "suspicious activity". GoFundMe does have a higher fee but is less likely to screw over everyone. |

I don't think "Julie" is really "Julie", probably somebody else. Though there does appear to be a psychiatrist in that are with that name. But who knows, maybe there is a hate filled emotionally driven psychiatrist that feels the need to come here and spout juvenile ignorance. It wouldn't be the weirdest thing I've seen in my lifetime. |

Thankfully that post is now gone, and so (I assume) is that user. It was a cruel thing to say, and would have been so easy to just pass by and not read it again. Many threads in this section piss me off, notice how few of those I post in, just better for my quality of life to pass right by them and never even read it. Just FYI for background... 20+ years ago my mom went through breast cancer treatment. Last year she was having problems and her bilirubin was really high. Finally got a doctor to treat it seriously just before it went 20 to 30 times higher than normal. In the hospitals for 3 months with lots of testing to find out it was a tumor on her pancreas. Looked surgical, doctor went in and found it had spread to wrap around the artery right next to it. That artery feeds blood to your entire digestive system with little tiny branches everywhere. This is inoperable! Chemo, radiation, more chemo... She's just coming back from a trip to Germany with two of her sisters, probably the last big trip she will get. While she is a lot better now with no real signs of the tumor, this condition will prove terminal in the somewhat near future. They still couldn't spot the tumor on the artery when it was big, so I assume it is still there waiting to strike back. Now if that scumbag using the Julie name want's to come back in here and spout off again, I f'ing dare you. I'll collect the info and trouble your online presence to no end you piece of fecal excrement. (Message edited by Greg_E on September 30, 2015) |
