For those of you that might be in the Orlando area or interested in traveling this direction: https://www.livingsocial.com/events/1485478-2-tick ets-to-aimexpo-american-international-motorcycle-e xpo $15 for 2 tickets Unfortunately no EBR this year but lots of vendors (grows every year) and plenty of on and off road demo rides. If planning to do on road demos, have to be there at opening to sign up for a time slot. I have no connections to the show, just passing along the discounted tickets. We've been the past few years and it is a great time (as my life flashed before my eyes while off-roading with the wife driving). This is also the last weekend of Biketoberfest in Daytona. Here is my post on the other link Matt started in case anyone is considering this even next year: Matt (Malott442), great meeting you also. This was my 3rd event. Primarily because it is local, no real sales pressure, and demo rides. I had 2 goals: ride a zero and can am spyder. We bought a used spyder RS Friday but were eager to ride the other models so we tried a RT out. Seat was more comfy but the adjustable windshield still created more buffeting than I expected. The spyder demo ride involves a training video and quick loop around the inside course to make sure you understand the different handling of the bike. They let us skip this part because we already had one but still had to wait for the others to complete this so overall it took a lot more time than I was expecting. Couple of friend with us were making fun of us for buying one but after riding they said it was a lot more fun than they expected. My wife was recently diagnosed with m.s. and a weak leg made it difficult at times to hold up the ninja. I rode a Zero FX because it was what was available for the time slot I needed, plus I just wanted to experience the electric drive train. I am an engineering and technology geek so for me the Zero exceeded my expectations. I have followed them since before the public launch. Turn on the key and turn the throttle. That's it. Wind and a whine from the motor is all you hear. I'd definitely want a little wind protection though. The law enforcement models there had a windshield and hard luggage. Power delivery is smooth and constant. I felt it pulled as good or better than the ninja 650 I just traded and that was plenty of power for everyday riding. Not a superbike but If I commuted alone, I would be buying one. There was quite the variety of people riding them also. 2015 and up models have the option for Level 2 charging. Inside, the big 4 always have the biggest booths, plus Harley. Can Am, Artic Cat, Massimo, and several other China brands present with nice displays. Motus was there but their bikes were in other vendor booths, not their own (that I saw). Accessories galore: twisted throttle, Arai, Shoei, AVG, rev'it, etc. Full list here:http://www.aimexpousa.com/2015-exhibitor-list/ Ace Cafe was there and will be open in early 2016 here in Orlando (updated per post below). We also rode/drove a few atvs and sidebysides which is always fun. Can am, artic cat, massimo, kymco, suzuki, honda, yamaha. Usually you get 2 laps around the track but depends on the vendor and if people are waiting in line. I can without a doubt say this event gets better and better each year. Outdoors: I think the number of demo vendors was the same but they were spaced out more this year and 2 offroad tracks instead of 1. Think Suzuki had the largest number of motorcycles for riding. Offroad, they were all about equal in number of vehicles. Indoors: Definitely more vendors because there was less custom and vintage bikes on display (still some, just not as many as before). They also expended the food area, with actual food this time, and that was a welcomed improvement. I think next year I am going to plan to attend both days so I can do more demos and see everything inside. I will say that the weather although beautiful and dry was a bit on the hot side (high 80s with very little shade). |
