I have/still own:

1978 Puch Maxi
1976 Motobecane V50
1970 Honda CL350
1971 Honda CL350 Sportsman Racer
1971 Triumph Bonneville
1971 Norton 750 Commando
1994 Kawasaki ZX11
1965 Vespa
1998 Harley Davidson Road King
2002 Yamaha R1
2006 Ducati SC1000

Basically, if it has two wheels and an engine, I dig it.

What??
No Buells?

World Class, American Made Sportbikes. Engineered By Riders (tm)

I can't wait to see that in print!

Seriously, an honest to goodness print ad with this tagline and oh-so-perfect Trademark! Or a brochure! Heck, I'd settle - to begin with - just seeing it on the revamped EBR website.

A definite,
direct step to right one of the 'wrongs' of EBR v1.0 (IMHO),

You know, Ghezzi and Brian are known for some of the sexiest Moto Guzzi's out there...

"Erik & Bruce" has a nice ring to it! Still like the "EBR/ERIK BRUCE RACING" idea the best...

Welcome, Bruce!!!

Which reminds me of a really funny story from Mid Ohio... I was there with Bob, a Honda riding buddy from where I work. He signed up for the Buell sponsored track day with me, and he got some local members of a a Honda sportbike forum he was in to sign up too.

He was just having great time, and had jumped on a Uly demo bike they had there on a whim. He was having ***stupid*** fun with the big bars and deceptively good handling ripping through the turns on that Uly when one of the Honda guys on an 1125 behind him figured "if that guy can go that fast on a Uly, I can certainly go that fast on an 1125".

That turned into an "it's the Indian and not just the arrow" learning moment for Honda guy on the 1125... as he low sided it off into the rough (where it rolled a few times).

As he was riding back in the recovery truck with some Buell employees, with a big pile of freshly ground 1125, he sheepishly asked them "well, what do we do now?" no doubt wondering what his liability was.

The Buell guys just laughed and answered "Nothing. We will just go build another one."

People that can make something from nothing are powerful people.

Bob is the same guy that in a later Buell track day thought it was really funny that he got stuffed in corner three by John Flickenger. John should have been in advanced, not intermediate, but that was true of Bob too, so it was all good. : )

(CeeJay and I were dicing for the "fastest slow guy" over in the Novice class... and by dicing I mean riding around trying not to die. And CeeJay could usually lap me by the end of session, but I was probably being too polite in my passing of the really slow people : ) )

Great memories!

I had a similar experience at Road America. My demo wasn't a "big pile". But the frame sliders were shredded along with the left peg. The primary cover had some good rash also.

The guys at the demo truck just shook their heads and loaded the bike into the trailer.

Inside pass with bikes to be beta tested - best idea ever, at least for us! Definitely one of the high points of my motorbiking experience, joking around with reep, bob, and a few others, hell I even met an old friend I hadn't seen in 15 yrs there, while trying to figure out what not to do with almost twice the rated HP of my normal bike…

Thanks for joining the fray (or at least another facet of it) and here's to hoping the good gets better sooner rather than later.

Thanks for stepping in Bruce! I thank you for the role that you have enjoined yourself to. In 74, when all the British went under, my norton dreams went bellyup. Just now, they are back up and running , but at a healthy premium. Life now is still just as simple. No need for a crap load of extras. Wheels, handlebars a healthy motor in whatever fashion, street legal, and made for the dirt! Just a small suggestion is all! Call it a ax if you like.
Once again, thanks! You da man!

In case you haven't seen it, there's a thread here asking for ideas on how to better market EBR bikes:

I was at my local dealer yesterday for their annual vintage show. I asked if they had any idea of what their status as a dealer would be with the new ownership. He simply said that I knew what he knew. His fire sale continues.

It occurs to me that if they do continue with the current models, there will be a good number of bikes that were sold cheap, that all of a sudden are virtually new bikes that can be sold for a nice profit, but will compete with the price that dealers have to ask for new bikes. That won't help out the dealers once things settle out.

He did make it pretty clear that for him to continue as an EBR dealer, the pathway forward has to be virtually painless, with no more cash outlays. I can understand his viewpoint.

I have to admit that buying on the fire sale would be a deal of a lifetime if the bike is supported again.

I was kind of hoping we or the dealers would have heard something by now, but I can imagine they are up to their a**es in alligators and they don't want to say, much less do anything wrong.

I'm very curious that Cycle World hasn't uttered a peep on their website about the sale; they're normally pretty pro-EBR. I'm hoping that means an in-depth interview with Erik and Bruce is in the works.

That is what I am hearing from all the EBR dealers I have been in contact with.

At this point, with regards anything EBR is doing, I'd say it is better (IMHO) to be late and get it right, then be faster and be wrong.

I would bet that Bruce knew this going in. It wouldn't surprise me at all if they didn't build any bikes this year, and concentrated on building relations and warrantee work until current dealer stock is depleted.

I agree that getting it right is probably more important than getting it now. I didn't really expect to hear much at this point. I'm sure that dealers are anxious to have some general guidance on where they stand though. Will the bikes they have now be covered by warranty? Will their dealership agreements continue in good standing with the new EBR? Should the fire sale continue? No doubt they are too busy to sleep these days, but some assurance to the dealers would go a long way toward getting the word out that EBR will be back ASAP.

"Should the fire sale continue?"

The fire sales were being done by the EBR dealers at a significant loss. Unlike when HD closed Buell those prices were offset by HD so dealers actually still made money on each bike sold.

Those $10,000 EBRs you are seeing on e-bay are costing each dealer about $3,000-$5,000 per bike.
