I think Trump is a clown, but not an idiot. I'm really hoping his popularity in the pols has more to do with his willingness to say things that a politician can't say, rather than serious support for him as a candidate. He might do some good if he can get us as a country to the point where we can actually say things again, rather than the stifling PC garbage that is being shoved down our throats. BO can't even tell us who we are being attacked by. How many isolated, single shooter attacks does it take to see the obvious pattern?
Fair warning. This strip is not work, children or Uptight Idiot safe. ( which are just spoiled brats, anyway )
It's just a mild swearing in this strip's case, but the comic as a whole pushes the bounds of common decency, Not even counting the occasional nudity and sex jokes. Sick sex jokes... ( and now you want to read it all, right? Sucker. )and even admitting I saw this opens me up for fairly valid charges of being a pervert.
But it does capture the prevailing sentiment about the herd of people trying to become our Glorious Leader.
I'd agree but he's not running for Congress, and I don't think he has a shot at the nomination, must less the Job. ( as Prez )
Still, it is fun to watch the rats scurry around in joy and panic when he talks, and that's just the media.
You have to have some sympathy for the other candidates though. "Governor Jones, what do you think of Donald Trump's comment on Lesbian Studies Majors?" "I have a plan to solve world hunger and pay off the debt in 5 years" "Yeah, whatever, but what about Trump's racism against Kenyans??" "My plan involves turning Congress into rat food and using millions of tiny hamster wheels to power a deathray" "Sure, whatever, but what about Trump's comments on Obama's daughters having a bad daddy?"
You get the point. It's early days yet, and while Trump doesn't pull all the oxygen out of the room, he attracts the press like a drunk teen actress stripping on the roof of a car.
Btw, I may vote for the hamster wheel guy. I like how he thinks.
So are the Republicans going to give me someone who isn't a clown to vote for? For that mater will the Dems? Or should I just move to Mexico and say F it?
I will say, its shocking that the Trump is doing so well right now. And while it sounds silly to (most of) us, the fact that he's saying what many want to hear on the Right is what it is...hes silly but he has many of the same ideals as most of us.
Or at least he seems to have the same ideals. That could be entirely bogus. You might remember some guy named Barry some years back sounded like he was for many people's ideals...... lied about it, but the press loved him.
Mostly, it's the press knows he's good for a sound bite.
The poll numbers are because he talks about what people are concerned about.
Illegal migration, sanctuary cities, how bad the economy really is, no matter how rich the folk who Bribe Obama are doing, and a foreign policy that's either beyond incompetent, or treasonous.
Mostly I suspect because he loves to give the reporters a well deserved hard time.
I like Carson, but he needs to get better at having answers to questions he's not ready for. Honesty just confuses reporters.
Trump as rorschach test.... People project their attitudes on Trump... True.
I remind you Obama was the Master at being the candidate that millions projected their own feelings and wants on. It helped that like The Donald, he never gave specifics but lived in a world of vague generalities and buzzwords with no Meaning... Except to people who saw past the b.s. and actually listened to him.
"Hope & Change"? Meaning? well, whatever you like. Life is always imperfect, so change is good, right? People hailed him as not just the Messiah, but God. ( this by the way, inevitably leads to disappointment, and quite often the merciless slaughter of a LOT of people. In the case of Mao, hundreds of Millions )
"Fundamentally Transform America"? Those who were fanboys just thought this a great line. Those who opposed him worried aloud that America, while certainly imperfect, didn't need a fundamental transformation. And those few who actually read his multiple ghost written full of lies biographies argued that Obama's idea of Transformation would be.... what Obama has done. Unemployment & food stamps & welfare higher than ever, allies betrayed, foes coddled, more, and far nastier, wars in progress than when he took the oath. To preside over the destruction of the Colonial powers is Obama's Dream From His Father.
So.... I'm Not so happy with people projecting their own wants on another person who is doing a very expensive, and more than slightly insane job interview.
Seriously, would you Hire Donald Trump to do your taxes? Buy a car from him? Trust him to run a sane HR dept?
The problem with President, as a Job, is it's hard to say "You're fired", without a competent Congress, or vigilante justice, which any sane person opposes.
I always thought of Obama as a gifted speaker and picture frame builder: IIt didn't matter what group he spoke to, he presented them with this gilded, ornate frame of oratory that the listeners in the audience with fill with their own visions, hopes, and dreams. Then they went away from the rally feeling like "he really spoke to me; he truly understands me", and then voted for him.
Exactly. It didn't matter what he actually believed, since he never really defines that in a speech. We now know he is, and was, contemptuous of pretty much everyone else. But in a controlled setting, concealed that well. Ask him an unscripted question though, and the inner tyrant peeks put.
You guys are describing just about anyone who has ever ran for president in recent history. Those that didn't speak this "image" never got a nomination.
It seems you have to tell people what they want to hear and not the truth. At least Trump is speaking his truth. I have to respect him for that, but he is still an ass.
Ummm... Reaganus Maximus told it exactly as he saw it and that has made him one of the greatest Presidents in history as well as a great politician. Obama and Clinton are just slop in a pigsty in comparison.
We have become a cynical people. We can regain our greatness by re-embracing Conservatism and become fanatical about equal opportunity, not equal results.
"Conservatism is not a cure all. Remember far right is just as bad as far left. Ask ISIS."
American Conservatism is not far right. The term "conservative" is only applicable in the country or culture in which it is referenced. In Russia, a conservative wants a return to communism. Be careful throwing that term around. The press misuses it intentionally all the time to attempt to conflate American Conservatism with that of fanatical muslims all the time. Just as you've attempted to do. Pretty dishonest.
How in the Wide World of Sports can you equate Conservatism with "far right"? Really? Conservatism is actually a centrist philosophy which has the following ideals: * equality of opportunity. * respect for the individual. * self-reliance. * conservation of resources. * supports a strong military. * hard work and personal responsibility. * charity to those who truly need help.
Airbozo, have you ever visited the Reagan Presidential Library? You will be amazed at the depth and experience of the man that spanned decades before his election to the Presidency. The Left magically omits the greater part of his life and denounces him as the costar of "Bedtime for Bonzo".
I guarantee you will impressed and realize the greatness of this man. We were so stunned by the visit that we couldn't ride our Buell for a few minutes after leaving. Check it out.
Remember that he was the governor of California before he was president, unlike Obama, who doesn't appear to have any qualifications at all. Being a community rabble rouser isn't a qualifying position, nor is being a junior senator for a third of a term.
Admittedly I have never been there. Or any other presidential library. I do however respect Reagan for what he had accomplished. I also dislike the things he allowed to happen under his presidency and then blamed his mental capacity for not owning up to it. If he knew ahead of time he had memory issues, he should have stepped down. He also did good things for California. Reaganomics however was IMO a failure and nothing to be proud of.
Conservatism has always (right or wrong) been linked with being far right just like liberalism has been linked (right or wrong) to far left.
Being dishonest implies an intent to mislead which is not what I was trying to do at all. I hear conservatives themselves linking the term with being far right and that is where I use the term.
Wikipedia describes it how I understand both terms:
Specifically this: "In general, right-wing implies a commitment to conservative Christian values, support for a free-market system, and traditional family values."
"Remember that he was the governor of California before he was president, unlike Obama, who doesn't appear to have any qualifications at all. Being a community rabble rouser isn't a qualifying position, nor is being a junior senator for a third of a term."
Obama's lack of Washington insider experience was considered a plus, much like several of the people running for the Republican nomination. Not sure if I agree or disagree with that myself. However, a president cannot be everything to everyone and that is why they hire staff and appoint folks that have the experience to specific positions.
This is a reason why the next President should be (or have been) a Governor or a high ranking military officer. Our country sorely needs actual managerial experience.
As much as I like Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio, they simply don't have the experience needed to lead. They will have similar shortcomings as the Creature who currently occupies our White House.
John Kasich and Scott Walker will both make exceptional Presidents; Jeb and Christie, not so much.
Don't find much to disagree with Airbozo. The definition of "Right-wing" is a bit problematic. I don't see any kind of hard right movement in the U.S.... I see it more as a loop, with authoritarians on either end right next to each other... But that's hard to visualize so how about?
And there you have it. Those that need to control others, and those that don't. Those are the two real parties, and sadly, those that don't seem to be a continuing minority.
tough guy? WTF? Name calling - classic liberal tactic
Ok, here are my comments, since all the RINOs on this board dont have any opinions
-Trump was outclassed by most -Paul had some good remarks, especially about his guns and marriage not being registered in DC -Christie is a joke -Repubs need to get away from the "Im against O or H" crap and start talking about what they are FOR. They will push more away with their negativity than they will gain. -the moderators did not seem very non-biased. You could tell they were very much against Trump, and they gave few questions to certain folks (ie: Paul only got a couple questions, though he spoke a lot it was due to interjections) -I liked Carly pretty good, more than I thought she would
But ultimately, here is my thought on last night: Shame on you, Fox, for splitting up the candidates. By doing so, and having the 'bottom 7' on at 5pm many people missed part, if not all, of their debate. Sure, there were clips shown later, but those, too, will have bias in them, youre only being shown what they WANT you to see.
And, speaking of the 5pm debate, and I cant recall, at the moment, who said it - but what kind of jackass calls for religious freedom (ie not forcing Christians to bake cakes for gays) yet is ok with preventing muslims from preaching and monitoring mosques etc Fact is this country was founded on Freedom of Religion, and youre either for Freedom or against it, none of this half and half crap
