Here it is, finally pulled the trigger on it after agonizing over the choices... $15,900 out the door. It's got just over 47k miles on it and came with a service manual.
So, I'm keeping the Z1000 and not buying a cruiser bike. Now the wife and I can ride 2-up side by side and rainstorms can go f**k themselves! |

I want a ride. If I make it through there, will you take me for a ride in it? I like the way they look. We need a ride report. |

Looks like a nice ride Matt. Personally, I prefer our Miata to riding 2 up on a big touring bike. A nice plus that we found on our first road trip was that when we pulled into a hotel, we popped the trunk and we each grabbed a single bag. No helmets, not rain gear, no cold weather gear, no gloves, etc. There is a lot of extra gear that goes with us when touring on the bikes, and in the Miata we really can travel light. Rain? I ran through a rain show with the top down while Mary was trying to figure out something on the map. She never knew it rained. You can also travel farther in a day and feel better when you get there. It's not two wheel travel, but it's still lots of fun. I'm also looking at doing my second autocross this weekend if it's not raining. It's a blast to do and I learned more about the handling of my car at it's limits than I would have learned in years of driving on public roads. |

I'm offering free rides to any BadWebber who wants them. Any excuse to drive this car is a good one! It's a hell of a lot of fun. The top goes up and down so easy... I can't believe I waited so long to get this car. |

Ourdee, I would be happy to give you a first hand experience of the Miata. Nothing like a nice day along the Rock River with the top down.

Pwnzor- NICE! A co-worker of mine had a nice one he'd bought new that was his "baby". About a year and a half ago, he got T-boned by a lady in a Mustang. She lost it on an entrance ramp approaching a bridge and came SIX lanes across traffic into the opposite lanes to hit him!. His shoulder was injured and I think he got a decent settlement out of the deal. He's still trying to decide what to buy to replace the MR2 with. |

I think the new Miata's look great. I never was a big fan but that one is turning my head, literally. |

Not wanting to turn this into a Miata vs. MR2 thread, they are pretty much the same vehicle concept. I agree that the styling on the new Miata is much improved. It's a shame the rumors of a turbo proved false. What the earlier generation Miata lacks in styling, it makes up for with aftermarket upgrades to improve performance and handling. That should continue with the 4th generation Miata. If not wanting to do it on a smaller budget, I would be all about the F-Type! |

Well that is a cool car! Like Sifo said, autocross is great fun. You learn just how possible it is to have legal unlimited fun on four wheels when you are in your drop top hotrod. It is quite comparable to hauling the twisties on the Buell. |

Here is me and my wife on our wedding day. This was my second 2003 absolutely red five speed with leather. I flew from NJ to Chicago to pick it up. Sold it a couple years ago. Loved that car. My first one I had to let it go when I got divorced. I miss having a true Spyder. Mid engine, Rear wheel drive, 2 seater. MR2. |

Yeah, I looked at a lot of Miatas, and in the end I really like the Midship Runabout concept, and now I'm glad I pulled the trigger on this one. The Miata has a trunk though... whereas the MR2 has tiny cubby holes behind the seats... I like the fact that there are much less of them on the road, a little more distinctive. |

Oh and fix your dog ears! The strap in the top that allows the top to tuck in instead of .. well .... like yours.

Nice catch, Matthew! Something like that's still on the "wanna" list for us- if your weather today is like it is here today in Mur-vil TN, PERFECT for a drop-top! Thank GOD the humidity is about half or less than what its been all week (150% or more it seems), with a decent breeze- might head down and hang with a buddy later out on the lake... If you ever make plans to do the Cherohala, etc., end up heading this way, holler! |

IIRC, didn't they make a 1st gen supercharged version of the MR2? I'd be sorely tempted to do some tuner funnin' with that little "go-kart" of a car... |

Yes there was a SC model in 1988-89. I had a 1989 MR2SC and it was a blast to drive and autocross. |

How can any of you proud Americans be so giddy about your Japanese girl cars? Nobody sees their own hypocrisy here? What a bunch of douches. |

Richard B Russell Scenic Parkway... with no dog ears. My car doesn't have the little strap to hold them in, so I have to tuck them in manually until I can find a strap somewhere or make one.

Sometimes the strap is still in the pocket and just became unsnapped. Check inside and see. Great pics. I miss my go kart for the street. |

Also check for damage to the pre-cats. They deteriorate and cause blow back into the engine and destroy said engine. Only way to cure is to go in with an ice pick and break that up and remove the honeycomb. Carefully though it is carcinogenic. I have some left over bolts for the job I think. I'll check. I could send them to you. I also have some window inserts to decrease buffeting for the front of the windows. They are clear plexiglass and fit perfectly. I could send them to you if you want. Hard to fix stupid. Those are nice cars. I'd say I'd love to drive either one, but I don't actually fit in a Miata. Never tried an MR2, but almost bought one when I picked up my 1986 CRX-si. I was younger and it was going to be my only car, so I felt like I needed the hatchback (and I was right). |

>How can any of you proud Americans be so giddy about your Japanese girl cars? Don't look at me - I went Bavarian. Please tell me you guys got manuals. I've been dying inside for a stick shift again and mid-life was whispering that it's time for that convertible. Another totem for sanity... Discovered the 1 series. Did not know it existed. Smallish without being claustrophobic. Shares the straight 6 from the 3's. Besides having a stick, another requirement for me was that it be a four seater. I have two sons and wanted something we could all still go out in... Deep back seats, it's juuust big enough to sit four adults.

I had to have a stick, but have done some real thinking about that since. Still glad I went with a stick, but modern automatics are really going to take over the performance world. They can simply shift faster than a human. Add a turbo to the mix, and the automatic really starts to make sense. |

I got the manual transmission, I filtered everything with an automatic out of my web searches. I basically wanted the closest thing to a motorcycle. Man and machine. |
