It really is a shame that nobody here likes Flat Track Racing. Last night's Du Quoin Mile was won by .002 of a second. It's some of the closest and toughest racing there is, as Troy Baylis found out. You guys are really missing something. |

I'm not opposed to it, I've just never been exposed to it. The closest place that I know of that AMA runs is almost 3 hours away and this last time it was on a work night. If the schedule ever worked out to where I could get to a race I'd be there! |

Guilty as charged. I lived about 3 hours away from the Sacramento Mile but never got a group together to go. No excuses, I'm sure I would have liked it. On the other hand, I did go to MotoGP in Laguna Seca a number of times, hill climbs at Carnegie OHV, amateur 1/8 mile flat track at the local fairgrounds and plenty of speedway races. Still . . . . |

I live about equal distances from DuQuoin and Springfield and use to go to both every year with a group of friends but life happens and the group gets busy with it so nobody goes anymore. Saw some great racing back then! I'm a big Springer fan since he's as old as me and as long as he's racing it means I could be too! But I think he's retired from racing now. |

It really is a shame that nobody here likes Flat Track Racing. Where did that come from?? San Jose Mile, Sacramento Mile, Springfield Mile, Prescott Mile, Rapid City, Sturgis, Freemont, Knoxville I've been to all of them. I like Flat Track Racing just fine. G |

When I was younger you could barely get a seat at the springfield mile. Last spring I could sit anywhere I wanted. Definitely a huge change. Bayliss didn't do very well then. Ill be interested in seeing how well he has improved when he comes back to springpatch this fall. |

I use to go to the Peoria TT races every year but now they don't run the big twins, it's all the single cylinder bikes and I don't care for those. I miss the days of Jay Springer and Chris Carr battling it out for the checkered flag! |

Nothing like being a kid in a pack of go-karts on a flat track. Last time I was on a flat track was in the 80s. |

I loved flat track racing. Used to trek to Welland Canada to watch them, and at the Hamburg NY fairgrounds, and at Syracuse mile. All when I was in my early twenties. I never lost interest, I became a participant in other kinds of racing and ran out of time. Heck I bought my TT 500 because of watching them. Had their been a local flat track to my home area..... |

Back in the day I went to the Flat Track races at Ascot Park, every Friday night, through my high school years. Never attended a high school football game.... same night as Flat Track races. Out of HS I became interested in Motocross... and here we are. If Ascot was still standing and putting on FT races I'd be there too. |

I'm not opposed to it, I've just never been exposed to it. +1 I saw it in person one time at some fairgrounds, somewhere USA... when I was a kid. Seemed like good fun, just never really been around it. |

524 Jen was the first to win on the new HD team, but after crashing her third race was never again competitive. The HD team used XR parts, and tuning techniques but was too old fashioned to be competitive in the singles group where competition was heavy and the motor a hard one to easily modify per each different track requirements. The privateers had more luck but faced the same problems and did not have the funds to constantly change the motors for the different track/rule requirements. Tre real reason Blasts never caught on in flat track racing. If HD had modernized their program the Blast would have kicked ass, but such was not to be.

809 Not that people where not racing the Blast, just that it was cheaper to race any other bike and be competitive, so they did. The diehards like Texter family, Sundance, Joe Giacomo, etc. found limited success by sticking with tracks with similar rules, but this was limiting and allowed little chance for any major national titles - still they where raced and are still raced! If you have any interest in Flat Track racing, here's a link to the report on the Du Quoin Mile in Cycle News. It was an amazing race. Go to page 104. http://cyclenews.uberflip.com/i/538021-cycle-news- 2015-issue-27-july-7 |

I love flat track but the MX singles took all the fun out of it. EZ, the Blasts! got dusted anytime traction was good. I admired the effort, but that engine was outclassed from the start. If the twins series are still televised, I've been missing it. |

I lost interest after Eslick went down in the first turn during the x-games and had to carry his own exhaust pipe across the track. |

this thread's conversation is why I quit posting in the "Dirt Track Racing" sub-forum thx to Crusty & EZBlast for your contributions there & here - we 3 might as well PM each other to save BadWeb's bandwidth...... me? I'm already booked for November's Las Vegas doubleheader of The Flat Track Finals and The Superprestigio it's a 10-hr drive & my DT-loving pals & I simply don't mind! Rick - the Blast was competitive - especially on the short tracks where bottom end torque meant everything - there they at least usually showed if not win, or no one would have bothered in the first place. As I said - it's not that they could not compete, they could - it just took a lot more work to set them up for each of the different tracks to make them nationally competitive - and that was a lot of time and some money involved - even for HD who had the parts just sitting around. People being lazy of course went for the easier rotax motors and Japans offerings - can't blame them. Your assumption is wrong though and poorly made. EZ |

Is anyone here going to the Indy Mile this weekend? Look for me; I'll be on the front row at the finish line. |

I like Flat Track racing. I'll bet Buell could make a killer flat track themed bike. Anyway, the Sac Mile was awesome on all levels. |
