..me too.My father was a Radioman 1st Class on board an escort carrier in the South Pacific with Admiral Halsey's Fleet. He died at age 33 in '58 when i was 4 years old....never got to really know him"one on one".My one uncle,Jack, was in the Coast Guard during WW2.He died in the early 2000's alone...pretty sad.My other uncle,Phil, who's still alive and will turn 91 this year, was a B-17 CO and flew with the 97th Bomb Group out of Foggia,Italy.....thank you for all that you've done and to all of those who "didn't get to come home"...even bigger thanks....i have always been thanking our service men and women for over 40 + years now.I see so many of them around where i live and work(Carson City area).I always enjoy it and it makes them appreciate it .Again, thank you....all of you to those who served and to those still serving....
What Matthew said. I was never medically eligible to join one of the service branches... my dad was USAF in Korea, and I've known many great men and women who've served our country over the years.
Have a great, thoughtful, peaceful and fun Memorial Day with those who mean the most to you!
FWIW, my 8.5# Boston Butt is rolling on the rotisserie as I type this, started at 8:30AM with cherry smoke...
If any of you ever get over to Normandy, the St James cemetery is a very special place. The American cemetery at Madingley near Cambridge in the UK too, mostly Air Force there.
