I have just bought one of these vehicle diagnostic tools & it arrived direct from China with cables & cd. The cd looks like a cheap copy & I can't get the thing to install the programs, it says to run main.exe but it's a .config file & my win8 netbook just throws up a gobbledegook text file. Anyone got one of these? I could use some help.
Yeah thanks, hadn't seen that one, basically I'm not getting the install it's jumping straight to the authentification part. I'll perhaps try downloading the install & using the provided keygen off the disc.
Line 2 of the instructions tells me I shouldn't really be installing this KEYLOGGER software.
If you do insist on installing this software anyway, make sure it gets put on a pc that NEVER gets hooked up to the internet or used for any type of banking online and gets a full wipe once you get done using it. Even so, whatever it is you're trying to diagnose/repair may be suspect at that point. YMMV
There are a lot of knock-off diagnostic tools coming from China that do not work properly. Some of the auto manufacturers have released bulletins warning against using them.
D_Adams, Can we get some clarification on what you're talking about? Are you saying that OBDII software is also loaded with a keylogger program to steal personal info?
Mr_grumpy, Did you ever get your code reader working? I try to help if I can Sir. I use an Actron CP9125 OBDII code reader my self that seams to work pretty good.
Patches, no I haven't yet, but it's not urgent. I've put it on one side & I intend to put it onto a dedicated workshop computer in a couple of months time. That'll be a stand alone, not linked to the web, & will have all my manuals on it too. I bought the gizmo to have when I need it rather than desperately needing one now. I was hoping it would just plug and play so I could just see what it does, but I'll get a computer literate friend to install it when the time comes. This netbook is running Win8 with Classic Shell & an external cd/dvd drive so that maybe the problem, the Workshop unit is a std tower on Win7.
Cheers mate & please don't call me Sir, where I come from only those ennobled by Her Majesty The Queen or who have a hereditary title are "Sirs" & I've no desire to be lumped in with them.
(I said that to the Customs guys at Port Huron last year, made em laugh.)
