Ok so I had a "dumb ass" moment earlier today and want to get some opinions on if it'll be ok till the tank is just about empty. Today I was using my fuel can to fill up my 1125 in my garage. This fuel can had the "California" compliant spout so I gutted it a long time ago. But today the top half of the spout fell into my tank and it sank instead of float. It's approximately 1 inch diameter by 5 inches long with the 45 degree angle at the top. Do you think it'll be fine till the tank is just about empty before I pull the pump and remove this piece? | ||

I would say ok. I would wait to you get two of the pump o rings just in case I looked at my old pump did not see any thing that wood hert if you left in all summer long. Wait to the next valve job or the low gas light stops working | ||

The only issue could be possible chipping of the tank liner. | ||

Well it's plastic so I hope it wouldn't chip any thing lol. And I'm only at 28393 miles so I have about a year till valve time again but my low fuel light likes to come on in the cold mornings but goes away after about half a mile. | ||

Did it fall to the pump side or the other side. I just had my pump out and short of touching the fuel sensor, it cannot do much. The plastic just does not have much mass. If it is on the other side, it my be there awhile as there is only a small passage joining the two | ||

Get 4 or 5 friends over together, and tilt the bike forward after siphoning the gas out. Dunno if that would be safe or smart, just spit balling an idea on the wall . | ||

How about blindly grabbing it with one of those flexible three prong things? I don't know what they're called. | ||

I have one of those claw tools that is about 24 inches long and tried to blindly grab it but not sure if it's long enough. I was also thinking damn I wish I had one of those scope cameras to look down in there. Maybe I can get one from harbor freight and "see" what I can do lol | ||

If you tape or zip tie the camera to the end of the claws shaft, you'll be able to maneuver the claw by pushing or pulling the cable and shaft past each other. | ||

I wouldn't worry. It's not hurting anything in there and a round tube is unlikely to cause a problem. 5 years ago an 8" length of hose dropped into the fuel tank on my quad (an 800cc F. I. v-twin) while I was refueling and it's still there today. So go ahead and spend a half hour trying to fish it out and if you don't retrieve it then fuhgeddaboutit.
