I wonder how the left would react to having the race card played on them? Every criticism of Cruz being called racist. I know it will never happen, but still...
Then again, since they defined Hispanics as white with George Zimmerman, it's not racist to hate a Hispanic for their skin color.
Patches, the question still stands: Is there ANY candidate, Republican/Democrat/Independent that you would support and why?
This is a dialogue. A person asks you a question, and then you answer it.
"I prefer candidate XYZ because ABC."
Then we can have a pro/con discussion regarding your candidate and your reasons for preference.
In hearing the objections of others, you may learn something you hadn't considered. In defending your position, you may educate others in an manner your listener hadn't considered.
This is why we engage in these discussions.
Talking past one another is a feckless pursuit, obfuscation, mental autoerotica.
If you find one that's not biased, or at least predictably biased, let us know.
You may have to go to each guy's & gal's website.
You get a very distorted view when you read or hear what one person says about about another.
For Example,
Let's say Guy A has said he wants to cut spending and power in the Dept. of Education, because the existing policies are expensive and fail to work.
The Dept. would still pass tax money around to help with disabled students, as it does now, but instead of Creating and enforcing top down standards, it would be a clearing house to collect data on which methods the different States and School Districts work best, and pass that information along.
He reasons this will save a lot of money, both at the Federal and State level, as everyone could see, statistically, and factually which methods work best, and simple pride would make it a competitive thing to be the best.
Guy B will tell you Guy A wants to steal education dollars for his cronies, and will wreck your kid's chances to get a good education, and Guy A kicks Puppies, too.
And of course, Hillary Clinton will get richer while lying to you, and what difference does it make?
Hey Patches, no one says you have to pick a declared, vetted or listed candidate. I think what they are asking, is who do you like politically. If you could draft anyone at all to step up and represent your principles.......who would it be?
I'll give you one, I really like and respect Col. Allen West. He is currently working for a private think tank, no current interest to enter the race per his own words but I would love to see him in the mix because he is principled and articulate with his beliefs.
Ft B said it well (better than I can) instead of merely slinging mud at who you don't like, add some spice to our pot. Tell us who you like and why. I have never claimed to know everything and am always willing to hear a reasoned argument......let it fly
"is who do you like politically." How many times do I have to say do not like any of them politically.
I am not "merely slinging mud", just posting articles I see about them why I do not like any of them politically.
"Tell us who you like and why. I have never claimed to know everything and am always willing to hear a reasoned argument......let it fly" I am not into "Arguing" only Posting My Opinion.
To me "Col. Allen West" likes to play the "Race Card" too much.
First, please show an example of West "playing the race card". No example, and I must assume you are pushing propaganda and lies.
Second, I agree that NONE of the candidates will make me happy in ALL aspects of politics.
I'm a social libertarian/liberal, fiscal conservative. That's my Domestic attitude. No one is running on that platform, because the "common wisdom" is I don't exist. Yet many people feel the way I do, more or less.
If you go on the assumption that EVERY candidate is a sociopath, with the desire for power, and can support none of them for that reason, then you just give up, and let the most evil win.
It's always been the case that the people who want power, get power, and they do so by conning others into giving it to them. This was true for cave man tribes, Ancient Greece, Microsoft, and your town council.
If you're just figuring this out, it's about time. If you are depressed by this and reject participation in the system other than as a whining brat, take heart, everyone goes through this, usually by High School, and hopefully they grow out of Fad politics, and see that giving up is giving away your freedoms.
It's ALWAYS the lesser of evils. If you feel that you can't support or vote for any amount of evil you get the Greater of evils by default.
Because the more evil guys will lie to you.
You seem to be listening to the evil guys. I say this because you are repeating the propaganda of the opposition to the best guys. ( of a bad lot )
The Choosing of the candidate to actually run in the election is the ONLY power most of us have. I live in NY, which is going to vote for Hillary, Or Biden, Or for Obama's 3rd term, no matter what 49% of the people want.
So today, while there are more possibilities than Jeb vs. Hillary, is YOUR only shot at making a difference, so....
Which one of the many arseholes makes you LEAST angry?
Politicians are like diapers, you should change them often, and for the same reason.
Like him or not, Ted Cruz is a masterful debater. He will shred everyone during the upcoming Republican debates. And given the chance, Hillary will be eviscerated at the debate podium.
Who, besides myself, remembers the danger facing the Earth was Global Cooling?
Merely repeating the message that you don't like any Republican candidate has been received by your audience. You repeat yourself at the expense that you are communicating that you have nothing to offer.
As an example, look at the voluminous President O thread where I daily post political cartoons. Obviously, my singular message is that Obama is an incompetent pResident who is attempting to dismantle America. However, I present specific evidence through cartoons, op-ed pieces, and my own commentary.
Learn from it. You are being given a fair chance to participate here so that others might learn from you. If you have nothing to offer, then please don't pollute this thread.
PS: Why in the Wide World of Sports would you paraphrase a Hillary Clinton comment in an attempt to blunt discussion?
Patches, waiting until the "clowns walk out onto the stage" is too late. It results in "lesser of two evils" reasoning.
It's what the two parties want. It's how they control us.
Instead employ zero based reasoning. Look at the entire field of potential candidates, determine what attributes are most important to you, build a short list of preferred candidates and monitor them to evaluate whether or not they deserve to remain in the short stack.
Saying "I'll wait until I am presented with the pre-determined party offerings" guarantees that you get what you are told you can have.
Support candidates early and often. Donate. Volunteer. Have discussions with peers. Donate. Influence the thinking of others. Increase exposure for the candidate you prefer. Donate.
To me, the race is not about the candidate, because the party dictates what is actually done. For example, George W Bush. It was not about what he wanted, rather what his "selected" cronies wanted. So many people focused their hate on W., but it was misdirected (IMO). Same thing with Obama. It's all about who they have to reward for support (monetary and political).
For the record, I do like a lot of Cruz's positions, but feel he looks too goofy to be president. Yes I can be superficial. I also don't like that he puts religion above the presidency. A president should answer to the people FIRST, sky fairy's way down the list, if at all. The problem is, if a politician claims not to believe in the christian god, or worships a different god, then their political career is severely limited in this country. However, I would not dismiss a candidate merely for being a religious man/woman so long as they know who they are supposed to answer to _first_.
I am still looking for a candidate that can actually lead this country no matter what party they are from. We don't need another divider as the last 2 have been. We need someone who can appeal to both sides, can be strong in their opinions and understands "compromise" is not a dirty word. So far I don't see that candidate on the landscape.
I had a boss some years back that used to call his wife a Jewish Princess. Was he being racist to his wife?
While probably not the best choice of words on West's part, this hardly rises to a pattern of racism. This was something said in the heat of an argument, a single time. Did Jesus ever speak of forgiveness?
My Jewish friends don't mind being called Jewish. Mormon friends, Mormon. So on, and so forth.
Wait, I think I get it. I'm racist. I am constantly discriminating against others that are not part of my race.
I will give you an example of my racism. I feed my dogs from a dish on the kitchen floor. They are simply not permitted to eat at the table with the humans.
My kids sometimes bring home little black humans to share dinner with us. They sit at the table. Likewise the little Asians and Indians.
I am sick of hearing about how racists are bad. I am clearly a very nice person, and I admit my racism. So racist in fact, that I even used to keep fish... In a TANK!
I'm pretty sure the very nice young black kid that took my daughter to the prom would agree with me.
