Just saw this in a post on ADVrider regarding owning a Ulysses:
quote:I know that the last time I went to order some things for mine before I got rid of it, the dealer said that a lot of the parts are showing up as "pending obsolete" in the HD computer system. What that means, I don't know, but it was a big concern for me.
I'm not particularly worried about it, but does anyone know what the "pending obsolete" means? I'm guessing when the existing stock is sold, there won't be any more? Personally, I don't think I'll have any problem keeping my Uly running for at least another 10 years. If I can't get the parts from American Sport Bike or Twin Cycles, there are plenty of parts on ebay. |

That basically is it, but that does not mean for sure that it is going away. Sometimes a part number changes, and the old part goes pending obsolete till the new part has taken over. The same thing happened with things like belts and wheelbearings. |

When I worked for HD/Buell,when inventory got down to a certain level they where transferred to a different warehouse and sourced through "Vintage Parts".When inventory runs out at Vintage Parts thats it.Of course you usually had to ask your friendly parts man to look at that option as many of them are new and don't know how.Of course things may have changed since the last time I checked, about a year and a half ago. |

As Froggy says, part numbers get superseded but they are usually updated automatically on HD Net,if they don't appear on the on the stores system they may need to look at HD Net.It helps to know how the system works. There may be a current dealership employee on here who can chime in as it's been a few years since I worked there. |
