GREAT race. No spoilers, but let's just say the current 1-2-3 positions are all former EBR riders. |

Slick was insane, May was great but as usual he has traffic issues, still he was fastest, and did a great job. Herron gave it a great shot but Danny was not to be denied! EZ |

Was Herrin a former Buell rider? Not as far as I know, but Taylor Knapp rode an 1125RR for one race, and Eslick and May were both former EBR riders. These guys had the top 3 positions at one point during the race. |

Danny is as crazy as a fresh sprayed roach. And I mean it in a good way. He's just nuts. Saw him and Geoff at the fan walk. I have never seen Geoff ride better. He was flying. I really would have loved to see Geoff win. I wore my 99 EBR shirt. Nobody, certainly not Geoff gave that race to Danny. It could have been any of the three. It was a good race, aside from all the crash induced red flags. |

That race was awesome! Geoff definitely brought his A game, he was the fastest, but traffic hindered him, Herrin was hip and stayed right on Danny's tail through traffic, while looking for the pass, but Danny was nuts, and if you took his lead, he'd take it back - Geoff kept his leads by being faster though, that last pit didn't help though. It seemed Geoff was at a distinct disadvantage with regard to lap traffic. Danny used the lap traffic the way a seasoned quarterback might use a ref on the field to block a competitors view of an impending play, or a pass. However, were it not for the technical difficulty, I really believe this was Geoff's race. Danny and Geoff are both surgeons. Geoff is a neurosurgeon, and Danny is an ER trauma specialist, both awesome at what they do, and trying to achieve the same end, just doing it a little differently. |

I would love to watch a recording of the race. Can't find a thing. If anyone has a link, please post it. |

I have to disagree with the "May was fastest comments"--Geoff may have been blessed with a faster bike (or at least better gearing for the banking,) but Slick was the only one passing on the infield section. What would generally happen is Slick would gain the lead by passing on the infield and then get draft passed on the banking. May ran a really good race (and got some real bad breaks with the slower traffic,) but Eslick was the fastest rider and deserved the win. And I am SO glad Slick beat Herrin. You could tell Herrin was disgusted at the end. Being beat by a bitter rival at the line stings! |

Right on all points Harlan, and I believe if not for the gas cap incident and had May been on Danny's tail in second HE would have drafted around him for the win. I think that was his strategy. Possibly even have drafted around both if he was a close third. He did it all race until the end. Great racing! |

Eslick was also a killer on the brakes. Fresnobuell, serious question here since I'm not an expert on racing, but would Eslick's disadvantage with regard to gearing and top end have translated into his better performance in the infield? Also, do you think that might have been May's strategy, knowing that he could take Eslick on the faster sections? |

Also, do you think that might have been May's strategy, knowing that he could take Eslick on the faster sections? Which BTW, leads to the finish line. That's a place you HAVE to be fast on that sort of track. |

Whoever layed out the track should be beaten to within an inch of their life! When I first saw it, I said "someone is going to get hurt bad on this one". It happened on the first lap. Looked like possibly a broken leg. I recognize that limp from experience! It looked like over a third of the starting grid was taken out by wipe outs but it was impossible to tell from the coverage. I was rooting for Geoff for this race and he kicked some serious butt but I know that Slick had some advantages such as being better on the brakes and faster in the turns. And faster on the straights. I have always enjoyed watching Slick race. 57 chicane exits. 57 wheelies! Every time the lead pack lapped a rider or a group of riders, Slick dropped back a place or two and then proceeded to zap all of them at once. It was a damned shame so many riders got hurt. Aside from that I thought it was a very exciting race to watch. |

The fact is Eslick won the race and he was the only racer who regularly passed in areas other than the banking. As JohnnyLB stated correctly, Eslick was by far the best on the brakes all races long as well.

I am not a racer either and I was wondering the same thing. There was one area on the track where I think Danny was at a disadvantage to the other contenders--towards the beginning of the banking. I noticed several times Danny was passed by like he was standing still at the beginning of the banking, which made me think he was either down on HP or there was a gearing issue for him at that point on the track. Hard to believe Danny doesn't have a ride this year. Damn shame. |

Danny don't have a ride, but he does have another Rolex and a little jingle in his pocket. Danny was waving at the fans in the grandstands exiting the international horse shoe, once as he was passing two riders on the outside. |

Panhead-dan, What do you mean the track layout? What made it dangerous? Do you mean the grid and turn into 1? I'm surprised Herrin took the bait and lead out of the chicane. It was obvious Danny was wanting to draft at the end. |

Perhaps Herrin knew he had an advantage on power/gearing and thought he could hold off Danny to the line? |

What do you mean the track layout? What made it dangerous? Square corners in the chicane, turns off the main oval delineated with a couple of cones, guard rails just like on a public hiway, etc. There were more riders taking wrong turns than any race I've seen since I was a kid desert racing down in Arizona. |

That did look kinda hokey. Cones tipped over , etc. Black visquene blowing in the wind. Considering its the 74th running of the Daytona 200, it did look kinda cheesey. And did anyone see any fans in the stands? Did I hear the announcer say it was one of the best attendances in 10 years? |
