With Glitch Badness happening it seems it's time for another US trip! I thought I'd start up this thread to both let y'all know what I'm up to and see where we cross paths, and for anybody to throw around ideas of things I can do, places I could visit.
My travel plans at this stage are... Arrive Atlanta Tuesday 17th March, staying with Glitch and Ann
21st-22nd March - Glitch Badness!!! Really looking forward to this, hanging out with friends I haven't seen for a while and hopefully a few folks who I haven't had a chance to meet in person yet. As I said in the Glitch Badness thread it would be really cool if I could ride on some of the famous roads you have all told me about before, but I really need a day or two riding or driving around before the weekend to get used to being on the opposite side of the road again safely. Buellish has most kindly said one of his bikes should be available, if anyone has any other ideas I'd be more than appreciative
23rd-25th-ish March - Checking out Nashville with squids and no_rice sounds like the plan at this stage, and maybe a little touring around the area. The Corvette Museum at Bowling Green is another idea.
Saturday 28th March - Fly to Los Angeles What can I say, I love LA/SoCal. Not the Hollywood stuff, all the other stuff around it I'll be staying with Asbjorn again, hoping to do a little riding, maybe even some mountain biking, and probably buying all sorts of parts to bring home!
Head home on Saturday April 4th
Aims for this trip - Hang out with friends, bench race, ride a bit, play a bit of music. The last few trips I've never really got to see a lot of night life so I'm hoping to see a few bands that I wouldn't normally see in Australia. Doing some mountain bike riding would be really cool if I can swing it too!
(For those of you who don't know... Vamps and I separated, quite amicably, about a year ago, hence this is a solo trip. We are still very good friends and catch up often but are heading different directions in life)
I've put in a time-off request for the Glitch weekend, if I can thread a couple of days in Nashvegas on the end of that, I'll see. There will be good live music and nightlife all 7 days.
Hmm, the thought of me and Jenn doing the badness trip, then dragging you along back to Nashville for the day or 2ish there(at least with us, we would have to head back on Tuesday i think) still seems like a reasonable plan.
Wonder what it would take to come up with another bike, say if some guy from Iowa decided to swing out to cali and ride for a few days the next weekend...
Leave officially approved!!! Booking international flights today
I'd love to stay for that Jim, but I'm pushing the limits already with time off work so have to head home on the 4th Doing a run up to SF for a night during the week before Easter is an idea though...
yes and no... im trying to figure it out while not bankrupting myself! lol
so we would be leaving home 3/19 and traveling all night until we hit suches. 900+ miles and SUPPOSED to be 15 or so hours...
meet everyone there, ride thuirsday, friday, saturday. head out on sunday towards nashville with Chili in tow in some way or another... spend sunday the 22nd and that night, monday the 23rd and that night in nashville. then Jenn and i would split to head back so we can be home on tuesday/tuesday night at some point.
i would work wed/thurs the 25th and 26th, then on the 27th jump a plane to LAX to join up out in cali... on the 27th(whenever my flight gets there),28,29,30,31.
jump a plane to denver(all my return flights want a layover in denver anyway) since i have a cousin there i am currently thinking what the heck, maybe i will make it a couple day layover and do some skiing with my cousin in between flights...
then fly from back home from denver to des moines on the 2nd or 3rd or whatever i figure out here...
thats alot in 2 weeks while still working a few days... hmmm

This much is correct, everything past this is optional
Sunday 3/22 and Monday 3/23 should be quite doable for me, might give up my Tuesday shift to just recuperate...
Things are looking purty interesting at this point!
As we get closer to March, I'll keep studying the concert calendar for Sunday and Monday nite shows we should see. The Nashville Scene is what I generally go to online for stuff to do there.
PLUS, it'll take 2.5 hours to do that Pedal Tavern if we choose to do so...
Yeah, I've considered that too, Tim! It goes against my basic instincts to work that hard at drinking beer... maybe if we joined up with some frat boys or a cycling team...
Anyhoo, if I make it to Nashville, so far it'll be you, your Jennie, Graham, and myself, right? I'm just trying to plan nightly accommodations for the entire trip... with the Triumph, a full outdoor camping kit would be awkward for carrying to Nashville, not so much for just to/from Suches from home.
Might just carry an air mattress, throw it on the floor if someone at a TWoS cabin or C3 Central would allow. That and the rest of my needs would probably max out the cargo capacity of the green bike...
Graham, be scanning/researching your "gotta see" places, we'll collaborate and do the best to use a small time window! Once we get within a couple of weeks, all the good bands will have booked their shows... the Exit/In and The End are right in the same area, and it's all pretty close together.
Brad - sounds cool. I'm keen on the pedal tavern, but if you guys want to do something else that's cool.
Nashville Monday/Tuesday, then I'll head back towards Atlanta/Glitch's place... I'll need to work out what I'm doing for wheels, and also need to figure out how I'm going to pack/carry stuff. I'll have a my BIG Buell bag and guitar, I've been meaning to get another big backpack that I can live out of for 3 or 4 days (ie Badness to Nashville and back to GA)...
Graham- take a look at the pedal tavern site... they need a minimum of 8, IIRC a max of 16. If we add Jeremy and Barker, our group gets to 6. Maybe Tom B. and some other likely suspects could join, but remember that would take 2.5 hours (which I'm OK with), and some logistics for acquiring libations, plus prolly some careful planning for partying safely later (late nite clubbing)- I vote for taxi later!
Also, they indicate that pedal tavern riders are welcome to supply their own music... maybe you could plug in your geetar!!! I believe that Sunday or Monday they have open mic nite at the Bluebird Café, but that place is a little ways from the main mass of cool places to hang...
I'm guessing I'll have to take off Tuesday, maybe Wednesday too. Let's be sure to collaborate with folks we know who actually live in Nashville, as I was only born/raised there and moved away in 1990.
I can get around about anywhere we want to go, but I'm not an insider anymore...
I suspect I will be able to get my sister, and possibly even her husband to come out with us at some point. He's trying to make it big in the music biz out there too... he seems to do ok with his music and keeps getting close but you know how that goes. He made it to the very finals on American Idol back when it was the most popular thing going.
Maybe I should! I saw the video, maybe ice skates???
Knowing what's happened previous years I will be bringing wet weather gear.
I guess it's time to start getting into the details too, I'll send a few pm's this weekend - Buellish, Slaughter, Glitch etc to make sure I'm in the right place at the right time.
I've spoken to Santa Cruz bikes about going there for a factory tour and also to a small maker, Black Market Bikes, in San Diego, so I might go "walkabout" while I'm in Cali...
