Besides my beloved Buell Cyclone, I ride a 67 Electra Glide, and she needs a generator... After a little web surfing I found a company called DB Electrical that sells a new 12v 2 brush generator for $104, and was looking for any input as to quality, fit, etc. | ||

Not sure on HD generators but I am rebuilding a model T right now and am rebuilding a starter. I am assembling myself with new and NOS parts. I can tall you from my research on my decision to rebuild my own came from seeing others reusing old oil soaked field coils, an other issues that were causing shorts. I am not sure if you can get a resto kit, but I would suggest getting new parts and assembling yourself. | ||

You may check with some local Electric Motor Co. service centers or Diesel (Big Truck) repair centers to see if you can get the original one rebuilt. May be cheaper and you don't half to worry about fitment. (Message edited by patches on March 05, 2015) | ||

Had a '77 FX Shovel for a while. It was fun at times, especially when I got the hang of kicking it to life... but, I learned the hard way that anything AMF and older, you've really got to build it yourself from the tires up to KNOW the bike, and know what's gonna break next. Got to take my sis out on it, over the Foothills Parkway and up to the Calderwood Dam Overlook, took a pic of her there hamming it up on the old Hog- that's my screen shot now when she calls. | ||

I've been together with this particular E Glide since 77, so I know all about generators too... just wondered if anyone knew the DB Electric brand, in case they were worth buying. The current one is 12 years old, and worn out completely, so a Cycle Electric generator is on it's way. :-) | ||

Don't hook it up to your old regulator when you get it, especially if it is the stock one. Old man Frank died a few years ago but if you watch Ebay you can find a FRANKS regulator. Sold hundreds of them and never saw a bad one.Saw more than one come in the shop wired wrong with no damage to the Gen or Reg after rewiring correctly. When one quits charging with a Franks a new set of brushes fixed it. Might could find you one here local. Guy 954-326-0428 | ||

I have franks on 48 panvel Pan shovel. no problems in 20 yrs. cycle electrics good. db don't have any experience |
