Even though it snowed this morning the roads were clear so I bundled up and picked up The Yellow Banana - 2002 Sprint w/ 4800 miles on the clock. The previous owner put on the Two Brothers canister, remapped the fuel injection and added taller clip ons. I stupidly took the long cut home and froze my ass off but initial impressions are: no shortage of power, really good handling and brakes, supple suspension, comfortable seat, motor is not as relaxed as a big Buell but it's not annoyingly inline-4 buzzy, surprisingly good wind protection, lots of room to shift around on, it has the smoothest shifting gearbox I've ever encountered, light clutch pull - this is going to be a really fun bike which will be hell on wheels in the corners. I like it.

Good catch! I'm curious about the frame sliders and rear rack- if they're good to fit on a Sprint ST, I'll see about getting those, especially the rack. If need be, it looks like it could carry a milk crate... Are the mirrors stock? I'd like to look at your bike beside mine sometime to compare things... Really digging my ST, looking forward to Glitch Badness on it! If you have an idea where to get a can like that 2 bros, lemme know. |

The rack holds a big yellow porta potty deal which I detached as it's a bit much. It's a Triumph rack and tour pak which will make for a nice backrest for the passenger. I'm going to get a gel pak piece and Velcro it to the tour pak for a little cushioning for the wife. I don't know if the mirrors are stock but they say Triumph on the bottom, they're buzz free and work well. The frame sliders I have no idea where they came from but I hope to never use them. I've got the factory soft saddlebags and tank bag so now I just need the weather to cooperate a little bit and we'll be good to go. Because it's so cold out I didn't take it above 85 MPH but I'd say that yellow IS the fast color! This feels like a speedy little thing. |

Interesting on the mirrors. I guess they optioned that to differentiate between S and ST models. They look like they'd bolt right on mine, same spot. I've not pooted around enough on the RAT forum to find out much, but I bought a Haynes manual and got an ECM cable, used it to clear a faulty engine check code... Also have the soft bags, pretty impressed with them, bought a Givi tank bag that mounts to the tank filler ring. I'll have to look around for that rack and topcase, could prolly use them. |
