Due to having frostbite on both feet back in my 20s my feet are a little odd when it comes to temperature - they overheat real easily. I've got some Sidi boots which I like a lot for most of the year but they set my feet on fire during the Summer so I can't wear them. Their Fusion Air looks like a winner but this style isn't so great for walking around in. Has anyone tried the Sidi On Road Gore Tex boot? | ||

No experience with Sidi but I have some Icon Field Armor 2 boots that are extremely comfortable all day long. | ||

I have the On Roads, they're the earlier Sympatex version. Been using them as my main boot since '06 so the lugs on the left sole are pretty well worn and they do get a little damp now after riding in a steady downpour. I guess they're more comfortable to walk around in than a sport-styled boot but in hot weather they definitely get warm. Maybe the Goretex version breathes better I don't know... In really hot weather I usually just wear my RG's. | ||

From reading the reviews it looks like the Sidi On Road Gore Tex is a 3 season boot which would set my feet on fire in the Summer. Maybe a pair of lace up Red Wings would be the way to go for the heat waves. Made in the US which is important to me, too. | ||

Having never found a riding boot that fits my feet, I love my Red Wings. Mine waterproof, and don't tend to exactly be cool, but wearing good quality wool socks does get the moisture away from your foot which can help a lot. | ||

Not all Red Wings are made in the USA. That being said, even the Chinese made versions are very high quality. Watch the labels, and ideally just go directly to a Red Wings shoe store and buy in person. Specify what you want, their service is excellent. | ||

I have both the Sidi Fusion Air and the Fusion Rain.The Fusion Air are more comfortable than the Fusion Rain and definitely not that bad for walking around in but that's just my opinion. | ||

Have you tried using wool socks, the socks I wear are WigWam Hikers that have 60% wool content. Wool socks keep your feet warm in the winter and cool and dry in the summer by wicking away moisture. | ||

flip flops with heal tow shifter be sure to keep the sunny side up.   Let us know if you find anything that has good protection and cool not counting my first idea. | ||

Try the Altama UtraLites. Over the ankle boots. Very cool and very comfy. They're like walking around in sneakers but have good ankle support. They protected my feet when I had a get off back in Dec of 2008. I'm still wearing them. | ||

Good ideas, everyone, especially the Jesus Creepers and heel/toe shifter! Don't think I'm in too much of a hurry as the Dreaded Polar Vortex blew the front door open a few minutes ago. I probably should be looking for mukluks. | ||

I feel for you, my feet are wide and finding a boot I can wear AND walk in without ending up gimped up is hard. The Sidis are narrow like most Euro footwear the RedWings might a better way to go. Try the Sidi Tour air or Traffic air boots. I have a pair of the traffic rain boots that are comfortable to walk in but do get a bit warm in the summer. The vented version should be good in the summer. | ||

What is the width like on the Traffic Air boots? Typical narrow Sidi or a bit wider? I normally take a D width. | ||

Width on the traffic would be a standard D width. They run a bit wider than some other Sidis. IIRC they are also available in a mega width. | ||

A pair of Sidi Traffic Rain boots showed up today and they're about a D width (which is perfect for me) and they'll be fine for 3 season usage. I used them today for an 1 1/2 ride in 22 degree weather and my feet got a bit chilled but not frozen which is a good thing. They'll be really comfortable once they're broken in and have the usual Sidi quality (really good). A set of Dr. Scholl's inserts helped the comfort level a bit, too. I can even wear them walking around although after a few hours they start to get a bit too warm indoors. Recommended. | ||

I have owned a pair of Vendramini boots for 9 years. The top black portion is a breathable mesh material. There is another patch of it above the toes. In the summer, there is a noticeable breeze that blows past my feet. They are durable, have good ankle protection and Vibrim soles. They are comfortable to walk in as well. I forgot all about Vendramini - Cosmo here in PA used to distribute those. I bought a pair for my first wife but there wasn't enough room in the calves for her. Chicken legs only need apply, I guess. | ||

For me, buying boots is like buying a helmet. The helmet that fits one person perfectly feels terrible to someone else. I don't know how many pairs of boots I've given away because they didn't fit right. Maybe I'm starting to learn how to not waste money by buying boots on the internet. A pair of boots that fits for $250.00 is a much better value than a pair that hurts my feet for $100.00 less from Fleabay. I have a fascination for Chippewa Rally boots, and I would really like a pair. However, I bought pair a few years ago and off the internet and couldn't wear them. I still want a pair, but I won't get them until I can try them on. I've discovered that boot sizes vary greatly with the manufacturers, too. I also have a thing for Danner Strikers. I bought a pair a few years ago, and they were so narrow, I couldn't wear them. This past summer, I got a pair from the factory, and even though I got them in wide and ordered a half size larger than I normally take, the boots are a bit too tight. After walking about a mile in them, my feet cramped up badly and I had a difficult time walking the last couple of hundred yards home. Another case of a bargain that wasn't. I still have a thing for those Chippewas; now I just have to find someone who stocks them in my size. | ||

This is where I've had problems finding any boot that fits my foot. With a EE width, Italian made MC boots just don't work. Never found one even close. This is where I really came to appreciate the fit of my Red Wing boots. They actually make and stock them in these widths. Even if you knew of a MC boot that was a likely candidate, finding it at a shop in an odd size that you can try on is next to impossible. I've since become impressed with the durability of the Red Wings. Being not MC specific, they wind up getting a lot more use than a MC specific boot ever would, and they are lasting great! Sure it would be great to have MC specific features. There's a lot to be said for that, but it just doesn't seem to be an option for me. Red Wings are a nice next best thing IMO. | ||

Today was the day where I picked up a pair of black Red Wing Pecos pull on boots. I was afraid that the Sidi Traffic Air boots would still be too hot for my feet if and when warm weather ever hits and I think that the Red Wings will work out really well for me. They're good looking enough where I can wear them anywhere, they can be resoled when the time comes and they're made in the USA. |
