"No data found for page '1019' in tree file. Board administrator should reindex the board through Data Recovery." I can't fix it this time, the boss needs to do a reindex. |

>>>like Blake is going to spend the money/time to get a decent forum upgrade Great chance to put your money where your mouth is . . . . Blake has carried this to one of the largest and most successful of motorcycle forums pretty much as a "favor". Frankly, were I Blake, I'd simply pull the plug. |

OK... There is much better forum software available for free. This is just one of the many examples. BUT, it would be a major pain in the ass to migrate all these message boards over, and they won't look right because all the coding in this dinosaur is completely different than anything that might be considered "standard". All the images we've posted over the years will not be visible. My suggestion for this would be to have a link on the main page where you can search the legacy site for material. Then cut and paste it into a new thread on the new board if you want to continue that conversation. Here is my offer. I'll provide hosting for both the legacy site and the new site. I'll give FTP access to all the people who need it. Moderators and such can all remain the same. Sponsor money can pay for whoever does reindexing or polishes the widgets or whatever goes on behind the scenes... Brian, I'm guessing. Blake is still free to swing the ban hammer. Libs can squawk about Cons, vice versa, and business can continue as usual without as many gremlins... Most importantly, people who hate Grey Poupon can switch to ketchup if they want to. |

It really is pretty cool . . . . . When Buell started their website there were precious few websites in the world . . . there were NO car, motorcycle or lawnmower companies that had them. Motorcycle.com, under the leadership if Brett Plumber, was really on the cutting edge. I'd been involved with Buell for about 8 years. Those were the days before personal computers (actually the early days . . my portable looked like a Singer sewing machine) and we kept the Buell Owners Club roster on a piece of legal paper (I still have a copy). Don Chase, Phil Wolfe and I were pretty much the organizers. We went so far as to file all the legal papers (Phil was, and is, one of the top Bond Attorneys in the country). The first "gathering" was on the AOL :RIDE: Forum. Remnants of that linger in Chauly, I and a few others. Motorcycle.com has a "Bulletin Board" (which was a total new concept at the time). I started at argument with Larry Wallerstein (an attorney in San Fran) about Buells . . . .after a "Buells are the sweepings off the Harley floor" and ended up, to make a point, jumping on my Buell and riding it through 37 states, hitting all 4 corners of the USA. It was the first time a Buell had been places like NYC, Blue Ridge Parkway, Grand Canyon, Rodeo Drive, Monterey and Mt. St, Helens, Jackson Hole and Sturgis . . . all in the same trip. A number of us started spending lots of time chatting by what was a growing "reply to all" e-mail convention. It was Blake Rudy, who was a brilliant engineer and at the time was something like the structural engineer for the B2 bomber, who found what about the only "Forum" software of the day . . Blake . . who had as much experience with internet as Dr. H. Pedersen did in creating website when he did the classic TEAM ELVES site . . set out to offer a solution to those in the mail group. The years that have followed have been legendary. Over the years far superior software platforms have evolved but, frankly, we were all busy starting companies, raising families and doing some amazing things like shattering a bunch of Bonneville records, pervasively thought to be untouchable. Say what you will about Badweb . . . . but it's stood the test of time, outlasted Buell Motorcycle Company and is one of the largest and most respected online motorcycle communities in the world with tens of thousands of folks from a number of continents. Not . . . . in a new world where folks are more likely to talk than do . . . . an all together mean accomplishment. Just saying . . . . . EDIT: Corrected "Bong" attorney to BOND attorney . . . story tells better and, frankly, it pays a lot better. :-) (Message edited by court on February 10, 2015) |

Hahahaha. . . couple of typos . . . .starting your day at 3:30am has it's downsides at this age. ) Bond Attorney. Phil and I met while collecting motorcycles . . (he had one of every Ducati race bike ever made from Letko Cycles in KC) and cars . . we owned a Camaro together and I went with him (too rich for my boiled) when we flew to MA to close the deal on his 300SL Gullwing. Passionate folks are fun . . . . Dr. Don Chase could be a book . . . all by himself. I'd heard he passed away . . . then, a couple years ago I saw his famous red RS1200 on eBay. |

thanks for the history lesson place still needs an update BADLY I realize that Blake created this, and I am grateful for that, but that doesnt change the fact that the software sucks, its so primitive There are many passionate people on this board willing to give time and/or money - upgrading wouldnt even have to be on his shoulders (look above). Or he could use some of the vendor money to make this happen |

pwnzr - used phpbb before on two of my sites - loved it! lots of customization that you can do, lots of plug-ins to allow for easy posting up videos and pics (i still havent figured out how to do that on here....) etc awesome of you to offer your time and efforts, likely wont be allowed though. We'll have to stay with a software that pushes threads down to where they cant be brought back up, so if someone does a search and finds what they are looking for and replies to the thread, no one will see it |

Well..... I hope this place stays up and running. I haven't owned a Buell for some time. But that does not matter. I check in here at least once or twice a day. I have met a bunch of great people that I would have never met if it weren't for Badweb. I would definitely miss this place if it were no longer here.... Thank You!! |

I'd be happy to donate to upgrade this forum once I hear what the cost would be and see detailed plans on how to improve it. I've met many people from this forum and have learned a lot. |

Part of the concern in upgrading has always been the probable loss of historical content. It isn't just the cost but the potential loss of valuable history. Plus, we couldn't go back and relive the epic rants from Skyguy. |

This forum software actually works incredibly well for the amount of maintenance that it gets (which is very little). It's a good "minimalist" solution, which I like for a lot of reasons. Porting the old data and user identities over is the big problem. |

I'm kinda in the same boat . . . . I log on . . . I see everything that has occurred since my last log on . . . I've met some fascinating people (including undercover agents, scientists, fighter pilots, engineers, brilliant folks is a myriad of endeavors) and . . . . in something, likely exceeding 50,000 posts . . have been happy. It should be pointed out that if you think Blake is "making money from sponsorships" that you need further education. Blake has done this out of the same enthusiasm that Fireman Jim races and helps folks with their engines . . .that Froggy fixes computers . . . and that a 10 year old girl has become my go-to tech support. Blake even allows non-sponsors a far wider latitude than any of the other forums I am on. I'm pretty happy here. If I were as pissed off as some purport to be . . . I'd do what Blake did and go start my own. But . . that's just me. |

Is there anything we can do as a group to help with a one time reset and hopefully maintain the history and archive? Thanks Blake for keeping this going, I've met great people, learned a lot, and tried to help others and pass on my lessons learned. This is an outstanding forum and group of people. |

Yes, big props for the Blakester! I, too, have had my life enrichened in myriad ways by the BadWeb... LOTS of good times, good peeps! Court- I flew through the "25 Years of Buell" book, and often wonder what all might have been left out. I know the editorial process culls lots of info... Perhaps you could work up the "Court Can-Cycle Chronicles", a randomly periodic journal of your years on Buells? |

Thanks Everybody. Will get the classifieds sorted ASAP. Have commitments until this evening. Sometimes works via phone, sometimes not. Thanks for the heads-up Frank. FYI: We purchased Vbulletin years ago, then when setting it up for the transition noticed that we were getting notices for patches and upgrades and security exploits fairly frequently. That totally soured me on that platform. The antique Discus software just plain works. Not sure what the advantages are of other platforms beyond some GUI fine tuning and extraneous bells and whistles. Other boards have problems too. Always open to suggestions though! |

That's not been ruled out and at least 2 publishers seem interested. There was a LOT left out for 3 reasons. Some, stuff like the Buell bicycle (it was briefly mentioned) and the Buell guitars (it was briefly mentioned) was omitted . . .as was the chapter, which I still have the drafts of, that was entitled "The Special Buells" (compiled with lots of help from Brankin and several Elves) that chronicled some of the one-offs Buells that were built for me and some other folks and organizations. There are also tons of OLD stories I've love to share . . . . and don't you think there aren't some AMAZING stories about how EBR was started. If I shared them now . . . . I'd be cast in the same light as Brian Williams (except I saved all the e-mails and documents) and I . . . headed into retirement . . . frankly haven't the capacity for the bullshit. One of our very active Badwebbers has been treated to a look at the archives and the warehouse or leftover crap from all those years. Hahahahaha . . . . The "Remind me to tell you . . . ."started about the time HD was expressing interest in Buell (Feb '93) and seems to have stuck. I also, cal me a pack rat, saved all the e-mails between Erik and I during those years as well as all the photos. But . . . . my personal metric has always been that if it's personal it's off-limits. We've had LOTS of dealings beyond motorcycles and I've shot thousands of pics of those events and undertakings. But, they do serve to flavor the entire adventure. One reason I'd like to write it is that few folks have a complete appreciation of how good a person Erik Buell is. To tell any of those stories, at this point, would simply get me labeled as an incurable "groupie" (the words of an ex-wife) and . . . .like I said . . . who needs it at this point. |
