The people who did that make their living doing that sort of parody. I find that poster no more offensive that what MM has said about our snipers. Or many other issues that MM opens his pie hole for.
Let me also point out that MM went far beyond simply deriding our snipers to. He also made it a point to deride all conservatives in his statements about the American Sniper movie.
So, I can see where you might find the above poster to be offensive. What I'm not clear about, can you see where MM's statements are also offensive? RBJ? Satori? Squids? Bueller...?
A person who would be murdered in public by pushing a wall down on them or stoned to death by a mob.
All of the endorsement comments are as expected. Offensive? Yah you betcha. Supposed to be..... but it fails to mock actual transgender people....just the politics of victimization.
This actually became kind of an interesting discussion...
Should a transgender person be offended by that poster? I could say "yes" because it is mocking them.
But is it? Or is it mocking the Sundance / Liberal bias towards inserting social activism into inappropriate and unnecessary places, generally awkardly? At which point, they may perhaps think it is funny, as I do, because it seems to be spot on satire.
Kinda like giving Obama the Nobel prize for... apparently... not being George W. Bush. Even if you are a liberal, you can't be happy about that kind of a patronizing award. Smells of racism to me...
If we do have a good transgender military sniper out there, more power to them, I would shake their hand and thank them for their service.
I just have a difficult time taking anyone seriously if they complain about this sort of offensive speech, but say nothing about what MM said that brought this on. If you won't acknowledge the offensive nature of MM's words, then you simply stink of hypocrisy.
Personally, I'm very willing to simply accept that I have the right to be offended. If you find yourself offended by anything I've said in this thread, then you might benefit by seriously thinking about what I've said.
Still wondering what certain folks think about MM's statements...
I find the majority of Michael Moore's statements to be objectionable. I do not, however, see the point of, nor the humor in, ridiculing transgender members of society in order to express displeasure with Michael Moore. If the intended target of mockery is Mr. Moore, then attack him- don't deride an innocent third party.
Of course the real humor of this is in seeing those who will complain about this poster, that very few are targeted by, and even fewer will ever see, vs. being silent about a giant blowhard who will offend millions with his statements that will be repeated by virtually every news station to make sure that everyone has heard it.
It matters not whether the "targeted few" will ever see this offense- the more pertinent point is the illumination of those who take delight in the mockery of the undeserved.
Another view would be that those that take delight in this derision find humor in it because they believe the "targeted few" deserve to be mocked. I believe that they are entitled to that opinion- I just ask that they have the courage to admit to it.
Would mocking Disney by making a fake poster about "the long awaited release of Song of the South" be racist? Or is it mocking the Rat Kingdom's racism?
In this case I find the offense against the group ( and I'm not a member of that group ) mild but the mocking of the PC crowd cutting.
In this case I found the poster initially stupid because there are no open jihadi Lgbtetc.
Then I thought it just might be brilliant in pointing out the hypocrisy and willful ignorance of MM.
Juries still out on that. Sure offended some, so it's effective.
Now I'm torn between mocking the ones offended by the wrong thing..... or contempt at women's and gay rights cowards who refuse to protest the death cult that murders their supposed friends.
I haven't seen the movie but I did read the book on a flight out west before the movie was released. I stumbled across this article while looking for a review of the movie fairly recently. It's a fairly provocative view on things.
Greatlaker, that sh*** makes my head spin. Sure, I understand the pseudo-intellectual psycho babble that article is trying to sell but really? We have people running around cutting people's heads off, burning people alive, stoning, selling children as sex slaves, throwing gays off of rooftops, etc, etc, etc and some arsehat wants to lecture us about our war culture and love of guns? Give me an f'n break. If it weren't for those redneck country boys his ass would be getting thrown off a seven story building.
It matters not whether the "targeted few" will ever see this offense- the more pertinent point is the illumination of those who take delight in the mockery of the undeserved.
And exactly who is being mocked in that satire? Is it even transgenders being mocked? If you think so, which you seem to, please explain what the mockery is. It simply uses an issue that MM has spoken out about to mock MM, as well as some other progressives. It actually targets the right people quite well.
I think this is imagined offense to a group that does not, in fact, exist.
There are zero out of the closet transgender or gays in ISIS. None.
My initial anger at the poster was it's unreality. I felt that it diluted the slam on MM to be that impossible.
The bad guys that MM is more comfortable than Americans would kill him instantly, ( after the torture vid) and murder gays proudly and publicly. The lesbians, I have discovered, are gang raped and left bleeding to be stoned to death by the family, to erase the shame. Note this is now mandatory instead of just normal.
I haven't seen the movie but I did read the book on a flight out west before the movie was released. Wow, 350 pages in about 4 hours. If I tried to read that fast I'd get a bad case of chapped lips.
So to answer above questions about How I feel about MM, well frankly I usually find his opinions and shooting off of his mouth quiet offensive.
As for being offended by the transgender aspect, I am not so much offended as I don't see the point of bringing them into the parody. Especially using an issue that is very real for them and that's access to either gender neutral or of their identified sex.
If it directly parodied who you are and a issue important to you would it still be so funny?
But I am a realist in that I don't have a right to not be offended, and I am absolutely ok with that.
As I said above the transgender part ( aside from the Rosie "quote") seemed gratuitous and I thought detracted from the mocking of MM. But now I'm not so sure it was a miss. Don't think it the best idea either.
But if the parody maker's point is that MM and his fellows would be so stupid as to make a transgender jihadi movie it's sorta clever. Like I said, still thinking about that, but not very hard. I'm far more concerned about that airliner that crashed in a river and why. ( west Pacific )
As to the real actual treatment of women, children, gays ( to include all variation in sexuality ) by the evil men MM seems to prefer to Navy Seals, I Am fracking Enraged.
