Luckily, I live south of you on a lower altitude. It was a balmy -2 in Holliston this morning. When I went out to start my Dodge, I swear I could hear it mutter "are you kidding me?" under the sound of the starter. |

It was a sunny 9F in my part of East Tennessee an hour ago. One of those mornings when you "knock the frost off the pumpkin" it shatters! The temp is up to 9.5F now! |

My crappy little shoebox of a house has CRAP for insulation- my gas furnace only kept the real cold out, couldn't help but still be chilly inside! I REALLY should look into a re-do of all my insulation. This house was built back in the 50's I believe, and what I really need is that service where they pump that foam down the walls from the attic, then blow/roll some modern insulation over my ceilings in the attic. I need to see if anyone local would do this for installation payments, I'm sure it aint cheap... BRRR... COME ON, SPRINGTIME!!!! |

Too cold to take kids on the school buses today, so instead I put new shocks and lift shackles on the back end of the Sonoma. Got it all done before it got above zero! Attic insulation is a pretty easy DIY job, that isn't too expensive, but can pay for itself in a hurry. Just make sure you don't lay it down so it stops the airflow where the roof comes down to the soffits. This is a good time of year to tackle this chore too. Much better than in the summer! |

That's one thing for sure- money on insulation is well-spent. You can dump a lot of money into high tech HVAC systems which may or may not perform as advertised, or which may turn out to be maintenance headaches, and which WILL wear out after ~15-20 years. Insulation, if done right, is there forever. |

Check with your local gas company. Most of them have subsidized programs where you can get your house insulated for almost free. My last house was balloon (?) framing and built in 1917, it had single pane glass and no insulation anywhere but the kitchen. The gas company sent someone out to look at the house. Three weeks later, they came out, did the spray foam insulation in the attic and insulated the walls, all for $150.00. When I lived there, before the insulation, my budgeted gas bill was $350 a month I have a house built in 1996 now. My parents built it. Wrapped, insulated, newer appliances, good windows, etc. My gas bill is $56 a month. |

Rear is lifted! Parts for the front lift should arrive today on the brown truck. Then I can get some proper tires that should work better for winter travel.

Just signed up with a new "Escore" TVA program, paid a $75 fee to have a guy come out and do an A to Z evaluation of the house... as certain updates get done, the program offers rebates on the costs. Dang thing about it is you never think about the need for this stuff UNTIL you're freezing! Gawd I'm ready for spring. BUT, then I'll need to get ready for the yard and garden, blahblahblah... Mebbe I should get a houseboat like my best buddy. Keeps things simple it seems. |

+3°F this morning here, still haven't needed to turn on the heat in my apartment. It is so well insulated I've had the windows open till last week. Sifo, you are going the wrong direction, slam it! Lowering springs and a body kit are on my spring projects list for my Canyon |

No, no, if he's lifting it it will be a snow toy with the right tires. lowering a car is only for street tires and smooth roads. Don't know his part of IL, but I'd never slam a car. Only mostly because I have a gravel driveway and we have potholes the size of Yugos every year. Not my driveway, the roads. Our brothers in warm climes who never lived in the rust belt, should understand that the freeze, thaw, cycles up here just blow any patched section of road like a mortar barrage. Even a good patch job with undercut edges and a hearty heated steam roller pounding, will just disintegrate in days. Stuff usually holds still for the summer, and the cycle starts each fall.... F'ing cold the last few, though. Lots of accidents. You'd think they'd learn, or remember, It's enough to cost you your faith in mankind. |

Slamming a car kills the driveability. You loose the comfort and always have to worry about every transition to every driveway you may want to turn into. Nevermind the condition of the intersection where I leave my subdivision right now. Halfway through a construction project that was supposed to be done last year. They didn't even come close. Also a slammed truck will never see this...
Nice little private lake we have in Michigan. If your Canyon is anything like the Sonoma, you will have more difficulties with slamming it that you will lifting it. $$$! It's your truck though. |

What a difference a day makes! Yesterday, it was -7 °; today, it's warmed up to 23 °. That's a 30 ° improvement! Of course, now it's snowing; but we're only supposed to get about 3 inches. And it will lay around for days or maybe weeks since it isn't supposed to get above freezing until God knows when (the weather forecasters sure as hell don't); but Hey! at least it's above zero. WINTER SUCKS |

This is why you ride cheerfully in 45 f weather in Spring, but less happy about it in Fall. I'm looking forward to those night runs home where I run through the cool spot where the back road dips & curves down over a creek near my house. Tonight that same spot has ice fog and the curve is dangerous. Someone dies there every few years. |

It was 50 degrees and raining here today. For me that's cold enough. The wife tells me it's not that cold in the morning. "Okay, when I'm out riding in the cold and wet I'll be thinking about how not that cold it is." |
