This issue got their offices firebombed. Loosely translated as "100 lashes if you don't die of laughter" (Message edited by slaughter on January 10, 2015) |

After the firebombing, Stephane Charbonnier refused to stop the presses in order to prevent violence brought by those who wanted to silence him. In a 2012 interview with Le Monde, he explained: "I don't feel as though I'm killing someone with a pen. I'm not putting lives at risk. When activists need a pretext to justify their violence, they always find it." The late Stephane Charbonnier (Message edited by slaughter on January 10, 2015) |

You just write "Je Suis Charlie" in the dirt on the back of your vehicle or anywhere else you can get away with, to show your support. Kind of like the Spartacus thing. |

I'm not really good with French, except for a few words that come thru in Cajun. I think that means "We are Charlie" more or less. A fine support slogan if there ever was one. My truck is sporting "Not Afraid". |

Death to the intolerant! We're not putting up with them anymore! Seriously. No matter if it's political correctness or religious zealots, ( same in my book ) do not let them shut you up. In America our First law is you worship as you choose and you can bitch. Our second law is you can shoot back. Don't it always seem to go, you don't know what you've got till it's gone. They fenced paradise and put up a free speech zone. Free speech begins at your mind. There are no limits. Yes if you insult someone prepare to defend yourself. Physical response to ideas is a crime. |

I can be an outspoken jerk with too little regard for others feelings. I don't recall being threatened here, but others have been. In every case iirc it was a threat of a punch in the nose or butt kicking from someone who had nothing rational to say and was horribly frustrated that facts presented violated the propaganda they spouted....... Always threats from the folk who foolishly follow one of the lie based philosophies. Socialism/communism/progressive. .... The "right wing" guys just call me an idiot and try and back their assertions up. Quite a difference. Jihadi would kill me, first for being disrespectful to their cult and second because I'm not a member. Screw them. Je Suis Charlie. |

They killed Stephane Charbonnier, but they did not and could not, and never will kill his spirit, or the spirit of anyone else that defies the intolerance and injustice. Convert, they say, so you can be saved. On your knees or die. Fine teachings from a "prophet" that was a pedophile, and a murderer. A man should rather die standing than live a thousand years on his knees. (Message edited by fast1075 on January 10, 2015) |

"How anybody expects a man to stay in business with every two-bit wowser in the country claiming a veto over what we can say and can't say and what we can show and what we can't show — it's enough to make you throw up. The whole principle is wrong; it's like demanding that grown men live on skim milk because the baby can't eat steak." Robert Heinlein |

"Take sex away from people. Make it forbidden, evil. Limit it to ritualistic breeding. Force it to back up into suppressed sadism. Then hand the people a scapegoat to hate. Let them kill a scapegoat occasionally for cathartic release. The mechanism is ages old. Tyrants used it centuries before the word "psychology" was ever invented. It works, too." Robert Heinlein |

Ft.... very good and relevant quotes. Heinlein may have been the spiritual successor to Sam Clemens. Did you ever read his book about touring the Soviet Union? He and his wife came up with the best single question to ask to determine a nation's economy. We are at war with an intolerant medieval cult. Or should I say they are at war with us and our "leaders" are in denial. Do you think it will take an attack on NPR for the useful to catch on? |

I doubt it. The useful believe we deserve every attack as recompense for our sins. Only through capitulation, acquiescence and the proper quantity of self loathing can we be saved. |

The Pope tells us that you can go too far insulting a religion. He's not the Boss Of Me, but he carries a lot of weight worldwide. A local "right wing nutjob" radio talk guy says he's looked at the cartoons that aroused such ire, and he thinks they are offensive. More, he thinks they lack satire value, or humor and are just rude insult. He goes on to say that here, in the USA, we have a LEGAL right to be rude and insulting, but perhaps a moral obligation not to be... IMHO you have to balance the calls for politeness, against the more insidious Political Correct calls, since PC is a tool to shut people up you don't agree with. Sometimes it's a fine line, sometimes not. The Government Pravda has been to "respect" Islam while condemning those many who actually follow the Word of the Prophet. This is obviously a cop-out, and a flawed compromise. But is it a rational response? So, should we insult Islam? Sure, go ahead. They will murder you and your family, but it's your right. The murderers will be legally wrong, morally wrong to use violence against words, IN OUR CULTURE, and completely within the letter of the law in THEIRS. It's pretty obvious to me that their culture sucks. And I actually read the Book. There is much to admire in classical Arab culture, notably in the hospitality laws and a desire to live a Godly life. The downside is it's a pre-medieval culture that supports slavery, and conquest... and that's BEFORE The Prophet came along and went all OCD Warlord. So what you see in "Islam" as practiced by the Wahabi, etc. is an overlay of a clever, ambitious, Warlord on a pre-medieval desert culture. Also understand that the Saudi's ( the region, not the Modern Kingdom ) is culturally distinct from Persia, ( Iran ) and historically, has been a culture that lived on Caravans ( from India & China to Greece, Rome, and Europe ) that was the preferred route because of the problem with pirates... which were also Saudis... I hope this gives a little insight into the current pirate situation in the region, which is a cultural export from the Saudis. But enough of background.. Why do many insult Christians but never, ever, insult Muslims? Because despite anything they say in public, they know that they will be killed. The following is NOT SAFE FOR WORK OR CHILDREN. Swearing, Atheist, and rude. Also insightful. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5thChfm8vLs |

There have been many "clashes of culture" throughout history. Those who are either unable or unwilling to stand against an advancing culture are swept aside by it. We, as a culture, will either stand against Islam or will be swept aside by it. I believe that western culture will rise up in defense of itself. The only question is how far Islam will be allowed to advance before action is taken. |

The question I ask is how long til the vast majority of peaceful followers of Islam understand that their faith has been hi-jacked & it's time to stand up to those who would lead them on a path of destruction. I don't see it happening in my lifetime, sadly. |

When exactly was Islam hi-jacked? From all I can see, it is as it always has been with Islam. |

Pwnzor, Islam has yet to go through any sort of reformation. Christianity, and to a lesser degree Catholicism, has. "Moderate Muslims" won't "wake up" for two reasons. First, in spite of assurances that the actions of those involved in 9/11, ISIS, etc. do not reflect Islam, a third of all Islamic texts call for the bloody jihad we are seeing acted out. This isn't a misinterpretation of the texts. It is a strict adherence to the texts. Second, "moderate Muslims" stand to benefit from the global caliphate particularly males. |

Once a nation goes nuclear, the rules change. Iran just announced plans for three new reactors. They will become a nuclear power if left unchecked. I suspect Israel will "check" them sooner than later. The troubling part is the willingness of the imams to sacrifice entire populations of Muslims to bring about the 12th imam. |
