The only way taxis will survive is if they get the cities to require uber and the like to have the same rules and regulations. The good thing from a taxis point of view for a Union is to pool their money together for lawyers. |

Uber and Lyft should follow the same regulations. They should carry the same commercial insurance and meet the same safety regulations. The only two things they bring tot he table, the cool apps and new cars because drivers come to the service with them. They only offer a price advantage but not paying for the proper insurance and not having to pay maintenance on the cars. Any Uber driver who operates on a full time basis is going to soon find that car maintenance is eating up a large chunk of there earnings. The insurance thing is huge, particularly for employees of a company. The employer can be liable for injuries to employees in accidents if the drivers insurance does not cover the accident and in some case the employer or the rider could be liable for damage and injuries to the other party in an accident if the drive does not have adequate coverage. |

It's going to take a few personal injury trials before they take that message to heart. 'Course, if there are no deep pockets, the PI pimps (lawyers) will have no one to go after, so it may not matter. |

and don't forget the drug testing and Anti-Human Trafficking and Prostitution training that NYC cabbies are required to have. I . . .lost for things to do . . . decided to get a NYC Taxi License. The fees bored on hilarious . . .I'll be starting with the $75 Fingerprinting Fee . . should be able to pass the English fluency test . . and then it's off to start drug and safety tests. The NYC cabbies have really been headed downhill in the last couple years. I've had 2 "rides from hell" this year. They mistake my Midwestern accent and don't know I've lived here better than 15 years. It's amazing what they will try to get away with. I had to go ballistic on one and recently just stepped out of the car and walked away. A level playing field would be good for everyone. By the way . . the case I filed with TLC surprised me. They take complaints seriously and wring the drivers out. If you have a bad experience in a NYC cab . . .call the TLC and cry foul. |

Commercial drivers license is required for taxi operators in new York, that's why you see a lot of livery drivers around here, they are not required to have a cdl. Just another way to cheat the system. |

We use the black cars for any trips we can plan, like to and from the airport. Not a lot more than a cab and always first class. Fees are negotiable too so you can sometimes get a really good rate. Save the cabs for spontaneous rides or take the subway. |

Funny thing about Lyft and Uber is they have a great lobbyist that muddies the waters and then Uber and Lyft seemingly get their way...no regulatory oversite. It is a real shame as in many instances the rules put in place many years ago are there to protect the public that Uber and Lyft are transporting. Plus if anything happens such as an accident the operators insurance company will probably not cover the accident because the operator was not paying for commercial insurance. I know personally of one instance of a States answer to the Uber and Lyft problem was for the regulating department to have a bill introduced to rescind the State law that was regulating 9 passenger or less transportation. Funny thing is the licensed carriers are against the bill and WANT to be licensed. |
