The panhandle of Texas; where you can be standing knee deep in mud, but have dust blowing in your face! \ |

Well got out of Texas and into New Mexico. Huge traffic jam due to an accident sat for over 2hrs then when it moved trailer brakes caught fire on one side. Frozen valve I reckon but company say park til tomorrow and they'll send a mechanic. Got plenty fuel plenty food and drinks. Bedtime now. |

2015 the warmest year on record. ( if you're faking the data why wait?) "Continental" weather can be extreme. The long term cooling trend shows in energy consumption records. Not sure what the European version of your trip would be. Stockholm to the Gobi desert? |

Yep, one of our guys has been stuck on the thruway just outside Buffalo since 2AM Tuesday. Last work about an hour ago was they were clearing the road in front of him and yanking trucks out of the snow as they go. He's been living on gum and melted snow for water for over 24 hours now. Grumpy, not sure how much cold and snow driving experience you have, but here's a few tips the old timers taught me. First, when stopping for what might be longer than a while, drag the brakes. Get them good and warm by braking and throttle at the same time. The heat will help the moisture evaporate off. Not 100% effective, but it can't hurt and you'll never know how many times it might save ya headaches. Also, if you're not dropping the trailer don't set the trailer brakes. They can't freeze locked up if they aren't locked! |
