Mental Aberrations A few years ago, my wife (at the time) and I would commute together. She would drop me off at my workplace on her way into the city, then pick me up on the way home. We enjoyed riding together and it gave us some private time to talk to each other or just be together quietly. One day while driving home from work, I spontaneously said, “Oogle, oogle!” She looked at me and said, “What was that?” I don’t know where it came from, but I had a memory of a Rocky and Bullwinkle cartoon with an Oogle Bird. I told her that, and asked if she’d ever seen it. She basically thought I was nuts; but a few days later, I found a new cable channel that was showing old Rocky and Bullwinkle cartoons and wouldn’t you know it, They had the episodes about the New Greenpernt Oogle. I taped them and for the next few nights, we watched and laughed. Now, my wife still thought I was nuts, but at least I could explain my behavior. Yesterday, I woke up with a song on my brain. The Cockroach That Ate Cincinnati. I only heard it once or maybe twice on the old Doctor Demento Radio Show decades ago, yet it was playing loudly in my head all day long. At first, it was only the tune; it took me a couple of seconds to dredge up some of the lyrics. That song stayed with me all day long; so last night, I googled it and came up with this link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NtEpqlrwX5c I hope you enjoy it. |

Thank you. I too suffer from earworm. Out of nowhere, a song from 1967 or 2012 pops into my head and runs round & round until displaced by the next one. I can usually stop any song by replacing it with Meatloaf, Yes, or other overblown orchestral rock, though sometimes the Cure is worse than the disease. "Paradise By The Dashboard Light" can be utterly insidious. ( The anthem of my generation... ) Here's one of many artificial aids on the net. http://unhearit.com/# |

I inherited about six Dr D cds from a good bud who passed many years back. Spent many a beer and poker night in my youth listening to Dr D with him and a few others. I remember a night roaring drunk alone singing along to those in his honor. The Cockroach, Poisoning Pigeons in the Park, I'm a Lumberjack, The Vatican Rag and Shaving Cream. May be time to do that again. Definitely best when well toasted. |

Right now I've got about 2500 songs that've been stuck in my head at one time or another on my phone...and climbing. My memory is very sporadic and unreliable, but I'll remember a tune or melody for decades. |

Kenm, They promised us flashbacks! Unless I've imagined the NSA IRS BATF DOE criminal activity and the multiple wars in the last 5 years, they lied. Or has everything since Lady Gaga been a horribly bad trip? ( darn! I knew Lorde was too good to be true ) |

For those with Pandora, set up a station called The Bonzo Dog Doo-dah Band, and enjoy most of what you speak (or hum!). |
