I was originally going to post this in the Ukraine thread, but the whole thread has gone off-topic. And so, a new thread.
If you buy into the zeitgeist propaganda, you need to go back and listen to the words of Jordan Maxwell, ~9 minutes into the video.
Jordan Maxwell is an educated moron. He believes that Saturn is also the sun, and that the two are God. But, he does know one thing, and preaches it very clearly - you have been lied to.
The occult is so prevalent, and so persuasive. Satan himself is the deceiver. That is why all of those mystery religions and mythologies try to lay claim to the true story of Jesus. Satan does not want you to believe, and he will work his "magic" any way that he can. And his deeds personify the most elemental definition of sin - elevation of self higher than God.
This all stems back to events recorded in Genesis, and I believe that the book of Enoch is useful for understanding what happened. The angels that fell from heaven brought "heavenly secrets" (which God declared were not secrets, but hollow and deceptive philosophies) to earth, and deceived men. I believe this is where all pagan religions come from. The fallen angels were known to men as Odin and Zeus and Osiris, etc. And their half-human offspring were mighty men. Giants. They had names like Hercules and Goliath and Thor. That is my belief. The fallen angels, fulfilling the deceptive will of Satan himself, instituted a misunderstanding, they were the firstfruits of a new world order (see "order" below).
The fact that all of these mythological religions try to steal the truth should be a warning that they are deception, and that that which they attempt to discredit is truth indeed.
Jesus Christ is the only human who ever performed miracles, fulfilled hundreds of years of prophecies, and lived again after being dead for 3 days, as He said He would. These things are recorded by historical records even aside from the bible. This information has never been recorded regarding any other human, ever.
The very presence of the universe indicates a Creator. He left his fingerprints all over. Look at quantum physics. Look at DNA. Look at the layout of the stars, and the seasons, and the cycles and measures of time and space. Look at the mathematical impossibility of macroevolution (it all started with no matter, no dimensions, containing no energy, producing all matter, all dimensions, and all energy, by completely natural and scientific means, completely defying every law of physics), not just at one stage, but at every single stage. The universe is like a computer, and its Builder left His programming code so that it is clearly visible to all who understand science on any level. His programming code is evident.
Science confirms "Order to Chaos" as law. At the original finite point where everything began (or just before) was perfection. Order, Period. And it's all moved toward chaos since then (think about it - although we're continually moving forward in technology, we are continually descending the scale of true order). Science alone should tell you that there was a time before chaos existed. Just continue going back in time. Chaos becomes less and less and less, until it is a mathematical impossibility. God. He is the singularity which science has never been able to explain away. Think about the New World Order, of which the bible speaks. It is deception in its purest form. It is Satan elevating himself above God, claiming himself as Order.
It should also stand to reason that, if chaos is joined to order, order would become chaotic. Thus, the need for redemption. The need for an eraser. The need for a Savior. Men cannot join God, because men contain Chaos. They are sinful. Until "something" erases their Chaos. Until Jesus gives them access to God by cancelling their sin, their chaos, their debt. Jesus was fully God (order), and fully man, yet He never gave into Chaos. And yet he gave Himself over to complete Chaos, so that we would not have to. He was the perfect sacrifice, who transcends time and space, and destroyed the scientific process which recognizes that all must end in ultimate chaos. He broke the ultimate fate of physics. Because He was God. And man. And He died, and yet lives again.
You don't have to believe. You have a free will. The Creator designed you that way. Because He loves you. You have a choice. The Creator does not force Himself down your throat. You may choose to live for Him, or for yourself.
The Zeitgeist video was cited by a peasant, and unarmed subject, who lives on a island which is a kingdom with no king. I must wonder how his environment has effected his understanding of reality.
Zeitgeist is complete bunk, on par with The DaVinci Code.
But people will eagerly swallow bunk if it supports their love of sin.
Funny story, an atheist once angrily retorted to a similar comment of mine, declaring that "I don't love sin!"
The foolishness is literally difficult to believe. They not only deny the God they know exists (...they are without excuse—Rom 1), they make up their own definition of sin.
For those who may be reading and not catching the irony, look up the 1st of the Ten Commandments, the one which Christ Jesus noted was supreme.
The Old Testament is the Origin story, and the tales of a tribe that rose in power, military and secular, over and over and lost it all to greed and foolishness.
Hard work leads to wealth, the wealth allows the leisure to ignore old lessons, and mixing metaphors.. the "Occupy" youth gets exploited by the evil who want power without responsibility. The good King gets corrupted, etc. etc. As the tribes gain power, then are betrayed, conquered, sold into slavery, nearly made extinct... lather, rinse, repeat. Cautionary tales. Great Soap Opera.
The New Testament is the teaching of Jesus and some Prophetic chapters.
The limited amount of Torah I have read is commentary on the historical Testaments, and yes, can be argumentative.
You don't have to believe every word in the Old Testament to get the message. Parts are after all written as bragging by a culture just before the fall.
Aesop didn't expect people to think they'd encounter a talking animal on the road, he wanted the lessons to be remembered. Wise Foxes or Burning Bushes could be metaphors or unexplainable events. The lesson is the point.
Often to get teaching past the dominant culture you have to place your tales outside that culture. Soviet Science Fiction was full of criticism of the Rulers masked by locating it on space colonies, etc.
Western writers had it a bit easier, but still had to remote the setting to get it past censors. "The Machine Stops", "1984", "If This Goes On"......
"Stranger In A Strange Land" used the very outside viewpoint of a human child raised, literally, by Martians, to mock a culture gone mad, and especially a religion created for profit. The Church of Foster had it's founder embalmed in State, like Lenin, sitting on his throne in his cathedral, murdered and exploited by his chief minions as a prop to keep the suckers coming in. Pretty obviously "about" the Scientologists and the Late ( and probably murdered ) L. Ron Hubbard.
Like I told Rocket, I don't care if you want to bow to Aldebaran 17 times a day. I insist you don't force me to, and will fight to keep you from preventing others from so doing.
Rocket's problem is I keep pointing out my accurate observation that the people he "seems" to believe as gospel are the folk that have actually codified the lie as the tactic to rule.
This obviously makes me a bigoted monster.
The accuracy of the observation is why it's declared a sin.
Did you see the Sam Harris & Bill Maher vs Ben Afleck episode? In criticiszing islamism, they were called racists by an alarmingly incensed Afleck who then predictably and hypocritically turned to attacking Christianity. Pity. Good actor. Now I can't stomach viewing his work, since his image reminds me of his bigoted foolishness. It ruins the theatre for me.
You're probably thinking of the Talmud. The Torah is the Old Testament.
Sounds like you know it pretty well.
I recently ran across an interesting insight into the Book of Job. It's new to me anyway. It makes sense and mirrors in one sense the conflict between the temple Pharisees and Jesus, strict self-serving adherence to law absent love for neighbors and God.
Lots of "Christian" pseudo-Pharisees in the world today.
Why is something unimportant and to be dismissed simply because it has the property of being subjective?
If something is subjective and based upon preference it cannot have any form of a justification hence it is necessarily irrational as rationality is based upon justification.
Now if you want to have something without justification you have two choices A) nihilism (meaninglessness) or B) solipsism (my uttered propositions have automatic ontological justification == I am god)
If you insist that you can act upon, and form beliefs that may be imposed upon others, from subjectivity, then you are irrational.
Four points any coherent world view must address: Origin, meaning, morality, and destiny
Secularism = no shame
Pluralism = no reason
Privatization = no meaning
Christian Doctrine:
1. The chief purpose of life is not happiness, but the knowledge of God.
2. Mankind is in a state of rebellion against God and his purpose.
3. The knowledge of God spills over into eternal life.
4. The knowledge of God is an incommensurable good.
Sin: Whatever weakens your reasoning, impairs your conscience, obscure's your sense of God, takes off your desire for spiritual things, or increases the authority of the body over the spirit, that thing is sin to you, however good it is in itself. -- Susana Wesley (John Wesley's mother)
A) All pleasure must be bought at the price of pain (effort/work/investment of self).
Constructive (true/pure/wholesome) pleasure: earned pleasure; price is paid before you enjoy it.
Destructive (false/corrupt/unwholesome) pleasure: unearned pleasure; price is paid after you enjoy it.
Anything that jeopardizes the sacred right of another is an illicit (false/corrupt/unwholesome) pleasure.
Any pleasure that is not kept in balance (obsessed over) will distort reality and destroy appetite.
B) Meaninglessness does not come from being weary of pain; it comes from being weary of pleasure. No one is so fed up with life as the one who has exhausted pleasure.
C) The closer you get to pure pleasures, the closer you get to the heart of God. The closer you get to impure pleasures, the farther you move from God.
Establish the true meaningful goal of your life. Anything that distracts from that is illegitimate.
Blake, I believe the Torah is only the pentateuch or first five books of the "Old Testament". There are connotations that come with the use of "Old Testament", "Hebrew Bible", or "Tanakh". Each of these expressions for basically the same content can bias the reader in regards to where they perceive your bias is. Just saying....
All credit to Ravi. Great speaker. GreAt at cutting to the root issue but speaking gently.
On the Torah. You're right, but it can mean both:
Definition: Torah www.jewfaq.org/defs/torah.htm Definition: Torah. Torah (TOH-ruh) In its narrowest sense, Torah the first five books of the Bible: Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy, sometimes called the Pentateuch or the Five Books of Moses. In its broadest sense, Torah is the entire body of Jewish teachings.
