I'm kinda digging this thing. A small, light, flickable sportbike. No traction control, cable-operated throttle, no ABS, no quickshifter... just an old-school, lightweight, agile sportbike. I need to sit on one of these things to see how I fit... but I have a feeling if I fit on a Firebolt, I shouldn't really have any problems on one of these. And under $5,000?? I can put it on a credit card, even! |

I agree! Need link to info and photos! Life is complicated enough. My motorcycle(s) need to be simple. |

Google works... http://www.motorcycle-usa.com/650/19361/Motorcycle -Article/2015-Yamaha-YZF-R3-First-Look.aspx The repli racer styling and plastic ruin it for me. Need a naked version. |

That would be a great little naked standard platform. |

I like the repli-racer styling. Just as long as it doesn't have a punishing repli-racer seating position, I'm good. Like I said, I need to sit on one to check out the ergos. PS: Where is the Rossi/Lorenzo "special edition" model?? (Message edited by jaimec on October 17, 2014) |

I was disappointed when Yamaha didn't come out with a Tenere version of the FZ-07 but now my interests have been piqued again. I think a track day on that bike would be a hoot. |

Yeah, one more thing here. This bike will list for $4990 while the single cylinder, 2 valve, 5-speed, rear drum brake, kick-start only SR400 goes for $1000 more!?! What's wrong with this picture? |

the extra $1000 is a price paid for the emotional benefit of owning something with that vintage vibe. A naked version of the R3 would be really cool. The R3 will make someone an awesome cheap track/twisty-road motorcycle. |

Strokizator: I can remember when Honda thought the single-cylinder, air-cooled, 500cc GB500 should cost more than the water-cooled, fuel-injected, 650cc V-twin Hawk. Made just about as much sense. |

might cost more to make, given ROI, projected numbers sold and all that. For example - Ford does a pretty cool thing in that the Cobra mustangs run right down the line with the rest of the musty's but not every company does thing that way. Helps keep the cost down for the Cobra by reducing line down time, which also keeps production #'s up for the cars they sell more of. Same reason it's tough to find roll down windows anymore… They know ( or think ) they'll sell more of the R3 configured that way than the SR400 with a kicker and a drum - I bet it was tough finding someone who could produce that drum in decent numbers, and while I think kickers are cool, got a little 80cc two stroker waiting to be fit into the go-cart shortly, not a lot of folks will want one... |

It costs more to make a naked bike look naked rather than stripped down. The exposed bits require a higher degree of finish. It also has polished metal over plastic bits. |

I think it'd be neat to see an EBR-badged, ~300cc version of the HX250R they designed for Hero:

Speaking of Hero, are there US dealers yet? I know my local EBR dealer kind of scoffed at the idea of an Indian built bike. With his business model, I tend to agree with him too. For other dealers it could make a lot of sense. On the original topic, that R3 looks like it could be fun to blast around on. The price is great! I wish they would offer bikes like these with upgraded suspension and brake parts though. The market probably doesn't support that though. |

And, so it begins. The light weight arms (displacement) race all over again. I remember when a Honda S90 was a big bike, to me. Blake Posted on Friday, October 17, 2014 - Life is complicated enough. I fondled an R3 today. Was told they are coming the first of the year. I very much like it. (Message edited by fast1075 on October 18, 2014) |

Couple od fuzzy pics from the show. Could not get a good angle on the Benelli. It is interesting, but porky at a 400# claimed weight.
