OK, I have been looking for a couple of hours now and I still have no idea which way to go on my bike. I hadn't been able to ride for some time (about a year)and the bike sat. Now that I have been able to get back to the bike it's having problems. When I first got things going everything was good, fresh gas, new plugs, and a new battery, back on the road. I lightly dropped the bike in gravel and it hasn't run right since. went through the book and it said bad coil so I replaced the coil and then the wires and more new plugs. Yesterday I put another new plug and wire to the rear cylinder and went through the 50 starts to reset the computer. Once I was done, the engine light was off, and the bike ran like old times. This morning it was back to the way it was before. What was before you ask? Well the bike only ran on the front cylinder, and started this morning that way. Once it gets hot the rear cylinder picks up and both cylinders are just fine. I did also replace the throttle cables while I couldn't ride but I can't believe that that would be why the rear cylinder doesn't fire until the engine is hot. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. | ||

are you getting fuel to the rear cylinder? electrical end problems would code perhaps a mechanical issue with the injectors? | ||

I would look toward O2 sensor, if you have an Engine Temp Sensor look there too. | ||

If it's been sat that long & it's intermittent good running until hot, I'd guess sticking injectors. Probably gummed up with old fuel residue. My best sugestion would be soak the injectors in a mix of injector cleaner & ethanol free gas. | ||

As far as fuel goes I can't remember the last time I put fuel in the bike that was not high test(92-93 oct.). I went out this evening and started the bike and was going to let it idle until it got hot and see if things cleared up again. Well it idled for about 5 min. and cut off. Then I had to twist the throttle a little to get it started. Now the cylinder that is firing acts like it is skip firing. It also is starting to backfire horribly, scared both my dogs bad enough they ran off. This wouldn't be so bad if there wasn't an '02 883 Sportster sitting right beside it the whole time that I already have up and running fine. This thing is starting to act like my cousin's thoroughbred horses. | ||

Which side did you drop it on, cam side? Could be cam sensor acting up... Put a double-dose of Sea Foam fuel treatment in it, and run it. That should help un-stick injectors and clean out the fuel system, if it's ganked up. Also, it sat for a long time - how's your mouse population? Take off the airbox and seat and check wires for chew marks yet? | ||

Try some of alcohol residue fuel system cleaners Then check the fuel filters The filters clean out the Goo from the cleaner doing its work. I had to change my S1W filters several times till it cleared up |
