I'm trying to find the name of the engine that had extra cylinders, which act as air compressors to provide forced induction to the other cylinders... Anyone? EDIT: Nevermind... Scuderi. (Message edited by torquehd on October 08, 2014) |

Could also be Porsche, he designed one to use in the "peoples car" during the early experimental stages. Two cyls used to supercharge the other two firing cyls, discarded due to lack of flexibility. |

Yeah, my dad had a Puch like that he bought from a neighbor. I was fascinated with the way it worked. I helpfully took it apart over a period of days while my dad was at work. Never ran again and I think my mom made him get rid of it. He also had a 1929 Henderson which he left when he went to serve in WW2. My uncle, his brother, took that one apart and it never ran again. Must run in the family. |

This thread title immediately retrieved the image of the gyro-reciprocating engine featured in an old Motor Trend article (It looked way cooler without the shroud). The "twingle" engines were, due to economic reality, doomed. Would be fun to have a running example for posterity, though. The Scuderi is a different animal altogether. Cool. Just a simple (Insert friendly sarcasm) balance of bore, stroke, and valve timing away from being viable, perhaps. |

That V-one Duc has me wondering what a twin turbo'ed, fuel injected Blast would do... XB9 performance @ 80 mpg?? I've seen a few takes on the "spherical" designs... they seem like inventors just wanting to make the most "out there" ICE that would still run, in theory, without any real advantage over conventional ICE. I think the Scuderi could work well with some R&D, but it seems like the developers started misappropriating their funding, and got caught up with some legal problems, rather than focusing on developing their product. |
