Less than an hour to the start of the Ryder Cup thread. (11:30pm PST, playing in Scotland.) I can't friggin wait. Im gonna watch until I fall asleep, then watch the rest in the morning. Match 4: Lefty/Keegan vs. Rory/Sergio. Im getting goosebumps thinking about watching them tee off on 1. Non-golf fans may want to check it out. Probably won't be sorry. May the best team win. |

But enough about that...let's look at the matches. Match 1: 2:35 AM ET United States: Bubba Watson and Webb Simpson Europe: Justin Rose and Henrik Stenson A ball-striking extravaganza here. The problem for the United States is that the two best of the four are on the European side. Match 2: 2:50 AM ET United States: Jimmy Walker and Rickie Fowler Europe: Thomas Bjorn and Martin Kaymer This might be the match where the US has the biggest advantage. I think the United States needs this one if it wants to win the whole thing (that's how big it is). Match 3: 3:05 AM ET United States: Jordan Spieth and Patrick Reed Europe: Stephen Gallacher and Ian Poulter Two upsets happening here. First, we thought Jordan Spieth and Patrick Reed would be split up because they're both Ryder Cup rookies. They aren't, which is awesome because they're both fearless. We also thought Ian Poulter would be with Justin Rose. He isn't, which means he's playing against Patrick Reed. That's equally awesome. Match 4: 3:20 AM ET United States: Keegan Bradley and Phil Mickelson Europe: Sergio Garcia and Rory McIlroy Oh my gosh. A dream matchup to get things going on Day 1 of the tournament. This one has "going to be played on the Golf Channel in 40 years" written all over it. The US will sit Hunter Mahan, Zach Johnson, Jim Furyk and Matt Kuchar in the first session, while Europe will rest Jamie Donaldson, Lee Westwood, Victor Dubuisson and Graeme McDowell |

I bet Tiger misses the Ryder Cup more than missing the Masters. They are teeing off now!

USA played well in 4 ball. Was nice to see us take 2 1/2. Looks like we have our hands full (presently) in alternating shot. Down in 3 matches and all square in the other. |

Sorry, I expected this thread to blow up over the weekend. LOL The odd hours of the Ryder Cup made it hard for me to chime in...plus sheer amount of golf to watch was an all weekend event. Bottom line: We got our asses kicked. Tom Watson not only made bad Captains picks, but compounded the issue by making bad decisions during the competition...and his cliche-filled interviews seemed like an indication that he wasn't really leading this team. Webb Simpson, Keegan Bradley & Phil have been off the radar all year, yet Tom Watson picked them. Hard to expect them to find their game all of a sudden--especially under Ryder Cup scrutiny. USA needs to put off the selection of the Captain's picks until the very last minute (after the Tour Championship.) Billy Horshel was on fire and was probably going insane watching the other Captains choices struggling (as many thought they would.) Even with the mighty Poulter playing badly and Rory starting slow out of the gates, the Euros had more than enough for the Americans. |

Good to see the rookies Spieth and Reed play so well together. The USA team result was disappointing, but the Europeans played really well. I agree that captains picks should be made closer to the actual event. |

I avoid watching golf since I've had to give up the game. It was making my Tourette’s Syndrome flair up. |

Phil's whining no good. Tom Watson didn't swing the club once during this Ryder Cup. Blaming the Captain is bush league. Texting the Captain to ask to play on Saturday. Really, Phil? And Keegan looked like a sulking, spoiled brat on Saturday. Come on dude, you are thirty-something in the world rankings and haven't been close to winning since I can remember... I think THIS is a big reason the Americans are getting spanking in the RC. Too many egos that never take a back seat. |
