Chemical weapons are being used by islamists in Iraq. You'd think that would be incredibly newsworthy.

So are these the Syrian chemical weapons supposedly used by Assad's brother without authorization is the stupidest manner possible ( I can give references )? Some one said "chlorine"? They probably are not the nerve gas or choking ( scar your lungs, mustard ) agents Saddam had, unless they were in the large convoys sent to Syria. All the Chemical weapons we have found in Iraq were nerve and choking agents. Assad's troops, or the rebels attempting to get Obama to keep his word on the red line, ( poor suckers ) may have used Chlorine in Syria. So first guess from me is that this is evidence that Assad was not guilty of using chemical weapons on his own people. Also Chlorine is really nasty burn your eyes out and drown in your own fluids due to lung burns stuff. It's use dates from WW1. It's also really easy to make, and is a common industrial chemical. It's used in pools and water treatment, among a jillion other uses, so it's easy to get. Not terribly persistent though. Bad enough to kill you, certainly, but not state of the art of death. It's also not verified, and may be some other chemical that smells like Chlorine. Or has Chlorine as a decay product. Much, but not all, of Saddam's arsenal was old by the time the Clinton era inspectors were kicked out, so it could be an old weapon of Saddam's from the storage areas captured by ISIS, or even from still hidden stockpiles that would be known to a defecting, or tortured Iraqi Officer or Noncom. The Question you never hear on the news is "what happened to all the chemical weapons counted by the UN that were not found by Allied troops after the liberation of Iraq?" I'm still waiting for that question, and really waiting for the answer, since it could be "that 196 tons of VX? It's in a pile of containers in Port of Jersey and has been since 2002." | ||

Does not fit Obama's desires. Which I increasingly believe is the Caliphate. I've seen no action of his that has not advanced that goal. When the Brits/Aussies/Yanks/French that went to join ISIS so they could behead and rape for fun and intimidation go home.......I bet they go to the local "community center" for assistance resuming the fun at home. | ||

I have this silly-assed idea that if you go fight for a regime that is actively advocating the overthrow of the U.S. government, you should be stripped of your citizenship. By the same token, if you actively advocate the overthrow of the U.S. government by armed means in the U.S. or are a U.S. citizen, you should be charged with treason. But we have become such a bunch of politically divided and politically correct nancy boys that we can't risk offending any particular group, even if they want to kill us. On another paranoid note: I travel more than 100K miles per year, by air mostly. If I were to write a novel (and I may yet) on the fall of America, it would involve infiltration of our transportation system by those sympathetic to the overthrow of the United States, through legalistic wrangling that limits background checks, security screens that are limited for religious reasons, and which avoids statistical methods that would identify those who should be looked at more closely. I would limit my intelligence gathering capability due to concerns about privacy and declare some information gotten through those means unusable for technical/legal reasons. Fiction follows reality. | ||

You have a point, Blake. Chlorine has an itsy bitsy carbon footprint, and it doesn't cause global warming, unlike those evil coal power plants. I think chlorine powered cars are the wave of the future. Let's throw over half a million tax-payer dollars at some random leftist university and see if they can't figure something out. | ||

NO YOU FOOL!!!! Chlorine kills the Ozone layer. No Ozone the UV reaches the ground and causes cancer... which does not matter because with No Ozone layer we all die because all the plants die... Real science. Not Global Climate Con(fusion). Sure, the amount released by ISIS is a tiny amount compared to that released by swimming pools, Volcanoes or, ( Shudder ) THE OCEAN! But the globe is warming, and Ozone is a greenhouse gas! We need to make a hole in the Ozone (that's what my gradeschool teachers said CFC's do), to let some of the heat out. And, Ozone is toxic to human lungs; it's even used as an alternative to Chlorine. We need chlorine to fight away the evil Ozone. After all, we know that Islam is a peaceful religion. So, muslims must be trying to help the environment. Unlike those evil republicans who make war against women and the environment. | ||
