Took some new pictures recently. Finally feel I have perfected the grips I put on these guns. 2009 22-4 45acp The service grips as they are called look great, but leave much to desired in shooting comfort and control. These were used on countless issue pistols through the years. 20140915_101230 by Slick_Rick77, on Flickr 20140915_101444 by Slick_Rick77, on Flickr It now wears a heavily modified and refinished set of target grips. The width remains the same with extra material up front and behind the trigger guard to allow for better control while still allowing for comfortable carry. 20140914_093831 by Slick_Rick77, on Flickr 20140914_094019 by Slick_Rick77, on Flickr It took a few months to get the courage to reshape them thusly (they started grotesquely oversized), but they turned out perfectly. 1954 Pre 27 357 The magna grips were the standard for duty revolvers for ages and some still prefer them. They are an improvement over the service style grips, but still leave my hands feeling a bit empty. 20140912_082849 by Slick_Rick77, on Flickr 20140912_082322 by Slick_Rick77, on Flickr As with the revolver above, these S&W target grips are the same width as the grips they replace with more material in front of the grip frame. 20140916_110247 by Slick_Rick77, on Flickr 20140916_110413 by Slick_Rick77, on Flickr These were easier to deal with being only shortened and refinished (they were glossy with a yellowish hue). They are bulkier than the 22-4 grips, but as I will likely never CCW this one they will do just fine. I'm happy to have the guns exactly as I wanted them. The grips make the gun and I think they are both as perfect as it gets. |
