Just read a story that said this bike will be going up for auction- IIRC, didn't this bike disappear after the film was made, with the red bike the only one left?

Someone here on BW will know more than I do about this...

Yes both bikes were stolen and parted out just after filming.
All others thereafter are recreations.

Heard on the news (am 1150 the patriot) about the auction, and that the bike is valued at over a million bucks.

Supposedly it's the real deal, one (the only one) left from the 4 originally built. All authenticated and stuff. Read an article about it. I used to go buy parts for my old 68 shovel head from the guy that built the original batch - Hardy Motorcycles in L.A.

Someone with WAY more $ then sense (cents?) will win the bid and their life will finally be fulfilled. Might even get 'em laid!

OR not.

I'm finally getting to be no longer surprised by the fantastic boost in value that created significance lends to sometimes rather mundane objects, and the fact that supposedly intelligent individuals can be convinced of the validity of that value.

Oh well, it's their money to blow any way they see fit.

I thought the Captain America bike that was wrecked at the end of the movie survived and was restored.

Tom- yeah, that's what Wiki said...

And, Left, I'm witcha on that. I read a piece some time ago that compared both bikes as far as design, and it came to the conclusion that the red bike would be WAAAY more fun and practical to ride.

Just not as kewl as Cap A bike.

The wiki piece had a lot more info about the movie than I had time to read- gotta get back to it and take it all in. I always loved that flick.

I'd buy it or anyone of them. And ride it.

It's not always about the money. There are real bike riders out there who are wealthy enough to afford million dollar price tags. They're no less worthy of ownership than someone who'd love it but could only afford it if it were $15000.

I'm sure anyone could build a replica for a great deal less if they really wanted one, but then it kinda misses the point of owning the actual bike, or the point of owning the replicas made by the same people that made or had a hand in making the real ones. If you can get past this though, a replica is a replica and does not really require the authenticity of the original people or equipment involved in making the original.

I've no problem with a $500 replica $15000 watch. Some people see such as a blemish upon a persons character. Get over it I say. Buy what you can afford and enjoy it. Hopefully others will too.
