Latest Cancer Update First, here’s a short recap. Last Winter, I was passing a little blood in my urine, so I went to see a Urologist. It turned out to be caused by cancer in my bladder. After a couple of surgeries and a series of BCG treatments, I returned to my Urologist for another Cystoscopy. He wanted to take another biopsy, but he also wanted me to stop taking my Wafarin (heart medication). When I discussed this with my Cardiologist, he went ballistic. He told me that under no circumstances should I stop taking Wafarin; if I do, I could die. I told the Urologist this, and the Battle of the Specialists was on. (pause to omit many interesting additional details and developments) To cut to the chase, I found another Urologist at the hospital that did my heart surgery. I figured that since they were ranked #4 in the country for Cardiac Surgery, they probably had fairly competent Urologists, too. I saw this new doctor and explained the basic situation to him (leaving out my personal opinions about one of his colleagues). He told me that the best course of action was for me to have a C-T Scan as bladder cancer is often accompanied by kidney cancer. After he got the results, he would do a Cystoscopy. Today, I went down to Worcester for the Cystoscopy. When the Doctor came into the room, I told him, “Doc, today is your day for giving out Good News!” He told me that first, my Cat Scan was Negative; there was no trace of any cancer in the results. Then he said that second, my Urinalysis showed no signs of malignant cancer in my urine. Then he did the Cystoscopy, and he explained to me in clear and concise terms just what we were looking at. I now know what my Urethra, Prostate, Bladder and Ureters look like from the inside (he didn’t go into the Ureters, as the scope he was using was too big). According to him, my bladder looks perfectly healthy. There were no unusual bumps, lumps or any other abnormalities visible. It looked good to me too, but I don’t really know what I’m looking at or what to look for. Anyhow, I’ve got a clean bill of health! I’ll still have to have a Cystoscopy every 3 or 4 months for a couple of years, and if I remain cancer free, then it will decrease in frequency to once a year. When I walked into the building, I was thinking that if there was no cancer in my kidneys, I’d be happy and if I didn’t have to have my bladder removed, it would be as good an outcome as I could hope for. To discover that I’m cancer free has me walking on air. This news is so far above my best hopes that I’m giddy with relief. Thank you for all the Prayers and Positive Energy that has been directed my way. I really believe that it has helped, and I’m greatly moved by the number of people who have shown that they care. It’s a honor to know people like you, and to have you in my life. |

Now that you have a new lease on life, what are your plans for the future? I'm rather enjoying your stories about the old days and see some parallels as well as differences with my own experiences and it's fun to take the trip down memory lane. Get out on the road and make some new memories. The air will smell especially sweet this time. |

We should celebrate at a Dinosaur near you while the weather is still cooperative... Next Saturday and Sunday both look like great weather. Well, the closest Dinosaur to me is in Troy, NY; but then again, I've never been to either the one in Stamford or the one in Brooklyn. Then again, the ride to Troy is much nicer than going down to the City. (I enjoy riding over the Mohawk Trail and the Taconic Trail, and I know a really good route on backroads for the ride home). So, I probably lean more towards the Troy Dinosaur. However, If people want to do a Dinosaur Run, just tell me which one you prefer and I'll be there. How does Saturday at 1:00 sound for a time & date? |

Crusty: Post your route and a couple rough times. I was in Brattleboro the other day.... Vowed to ride back in the next couple days...loved the area. May be fun to find you along your route and follow you ...... Since it now looks like my chance of buying your Guzzi prematurely has evaporated. :-) This is so cool. |

Crusty: Post your route and a couple rough times. OK, I'm assuming that the Dinosaur BBQ in Troy, NY at 1:00 PM on Saturday September 13 is acceptable to everyone. I plan to leave my house in Fitchburg at 9:00 AM. Google Maps says the trip will take 2 hrs. 51 minutes. That gives me a little free time in case I want to stop and get a cup of coffee along the way. I plan to just stay on Route 2 all the way to downtown Troy. As far as what time will I be at a specific location along the route; well, I just don't know. Often, when I go West along the Mohawk Trail, I stop for coffee at the Drunkin Donuts in North Adams (the location on the east side of town). I would guess that would take about 2 hours from my start, so I put me there at roughly 11:00. After I leave the Dinosaur though, I plan to pick up Route 66 just outside Troy, take it to Rt. 43 to Rt. 22 to U.S. Rt. 20 east, into Pittsfield, MA where I pick up Rt.9 to Rt.8A to Rt. 116 to Rt.63 and up to Rt. 2 to home. Route 116 is one of those really nice roads that nobody knows about. It follows a river through a State Forest, and it's a really nice twisty ride through beautiful scenery. Also, the Library in Conway, MA is a very impressive building. If you ever ride into Conway going east on 116, you'll know what I mean. Anyhow, that's my planned route. I'd put a map of it up, but I don't know how. Maybe Froggy or some other tech savvy member could plot it and put it up for me. I want to say Thanks for all the positive responses to my Original Post. It really hits home how caring the Buell Brotherhood is. I really do appreciate it. Oh, Court, I take a size XL T-shirt. (Message edited by Crusty on September 06, 2014) |
