Genetic degradation. We are devolving, no doubt.
This has been thought before.
The founding concepts behind Eugenics is simply that the smart (rich) people are being outnumbered by the stupid (poor} because of reproductive habits.
When you throw in the technology of modern birth control ( the pill ) the demographic shifts are obvious. Many European countries are not replacing themselves and the world is getting more and more full of the third worlders.
The idea of breeding for smart and healthy makes perfect sense.
The problem is that the idea got ruined back in the 1940's when the planet ran into the answer to the question not asked.
Who decides?
Who chose to decide ended up being a real disaster for everyone involved... and they were stopped long before we got to Star Trek's Khan.
It may not be as dark as it seems. Others have complained the world was going to stupid hell.... for many years.
Of course, this time it really looks like it's happening. There's a reason I cancelled cable.

For men to serve in the military they need to conform to very high physical and mental standards.
In fact these very ones are as good as the elite of any society.
Now as these are Killed in war, who is left behind to breed ?
The Inferior!
The more war you are involved in the worse things are becoming. |

I don't know about that Alfau.
I am unimpressed with the average soldier, in both fitness and intelligence.
Also consider that the US military makes up approximately 1% of the population. And the percentage of service members who die in wartime... i don't know what it is, but it would be a marginal number when you look at society as a whole.
I would also argue that calling people who are not service members inferior is inaccurate and not likely to be well received. |

I think the problem as a whole is, standards are being reduced. People expect less, so when people PRODUCE less, nobody blinks.
Lazy.
Everybody gets a trophy.
Nobody is special.
Everybody is special.
Homogenization over competition.
No true reward for true excellence...so why bother? We're starting THAT mentality young, that's how people (children) are being indoctrinated, and once indoctrinated...it is 1000% more difficult to change, than it is to "build 'em right the first time". Make kids CARE about being "better" again...and we'll see some real change. Until then, though...I won't hold my breath. |

Look at the effects of WW1 on the Brits, Germans, Belgians, and especially the French.
So many young men, and if not "the best and the brightest" at least the acceptably healthy, killed in the war. This profoundly changed the reality and demographics of Europe. To this day. |
